Paper Magazines
As part of an expansion on my Ultimate Disk Mag Online Archive project, I wish to scan PAPER magazines and make them available too.
Mags like Shock, Milestone, Pirates to name a few, will be made available online. So *everyone* finally gets to read the articles and view the photos and artwork of these fine C64 scene productions.
What I would ask is if people can supply me the magazines.
Either scan them in the most quality resolution they can and email me, photocopy them and send them in the mail, or send me the originals so I can scan them and send them back to you in the mail.
Would be great!

I'd say the hardest ones to dig up will be the SHOCK issues on paper up until now I have only seen one. A x-mas edition.
The paper art from Mirage or was it Skater I cant remember was a pure delight if I remember correctly.

Ah! I found the Shock 1990 xmas edition, yes the paper art was by Mirage as all expected.
Its quite funny to read theres an article from Crossfire or rather a letter apologising for his lame behaviour have recracked as exory. The editor has made comments through the letter which was a darn good laugh.

It might be worth considering making PDF versions of these mags too, which would make the text searchable etc. Can't wait till your collection goes online Jazzcat :)
Too bad I can't help you out with this one, unfortunately no papermags exist in my collection. |

Even I forgot how many we made but I've got 3 or 4 issues lying around here somewhere and even some artwork for the (never finished) 'sh0ck replugged' papermag.
I'll see if I can spare some time to scan all of that. |

Preserving history is what I do best, so I thought that I should make my contribution. I made quite a little research at a source which like to keep himself anonymous (ho-hum), but here's the list so far - save for the really obvious papermags which should be easily available like f.ex "Milestone", "Pirates" and "Bullet Proof";
---
EXPOSE (Released by WWE, atleast 6 issues)
Edited by Zwimmer and Death. #1 was released in Oct -89 and the last one I have seen was #6 released in Apr -90. I think there was one issue released in Sep -90 aswell.
IMAGINATION (Released by Unicess, atl. 1 issue)
Edited by Zak. I have only seen one issue of this mag, released sometime in 1992.
ESCAPISM (Released by Ikon Visual, atl. 1 issue)
Edited by ? and Australian based. Not really scene centered and very wide ranged to be a C-64 papermag.
IGUANA (Released by DCS, 9 issues)
Edited by Nosah. Said to be one of the best papermags ever. The true follow-up to Illegal when it grew bland. First issue was to be seen in Aug'88 and the #9 a year after, in Aug'89.
STOLEN DATA (Released by DCS, atl. 2 issues)
But even a legend have to die... Edited by Nosah. This mag is sort of a follow-up to the Iguana, and #2 was released in Feb/Mar'90.
CCCP (Released by Transcom, atl. 8 issues)
Edited by Stinger. Nice and graphical. #7 was released in Apr'90 and #8 was released in Jun'90.
RETARDER (Released by ?, atl. 1 issue)
Edited by Isaac. First issue released in Feb'91 at Venlo.
ECONOVAN (Released by Tera, atl. 1 issue)
I've got no idea who edited this one. It's clearly an Aussie mag, though, and the issue I have seen was released in Oct'89.
COCONUT (Released by Shine, atl. 1 issue)
Edited by Lobster and Acorn. The issue I have seen was released at the HZ-party in Sweden '92.
BRAINFART (Released by Paralyze, atl. 1 issue)
No idea who edited this one. The only issue I have seen was released in Dec'93. Must have been one of the last attempts to establish a papermag on the C-64 scene.
INTERFACE (Released by The Second Ring, atl. 1 issue)
Edited by Giorgio Armani, aka. Danny/Genius. Another aussie mag. Must have been released sometime in the early nineties.
HACKERS UNIT (Released by Sacred, atl. 1 issue)
No idea who the editor was. Another late attempt to establish a C-64 papermag. Issue #1 was released in Jun'93.
ARTPRESS (Released by Rebels, atl. 3 issues)
Edited by Neotec. Wonderful magazine whose main intent seem to have been to spread nice coverart around the globe. I really love this one. Issue #1 was released in Jan-Feb'84, #2 in Jul-Aug'94 and #3 in Dec'97.
ARISE (Released by Twilight, 3 issues)
Edited by me (Twoflower) and Dane. We made three paper issues before we found the papergfx and copying to tedious, and released three more issues on disk until we joined Triad.
---
And that's about what I found out. Hope to see a reply on this one. |

Expose papermag : all issues were released on a neutral base, not under a group or so. The main editors were from several groups and the mag hasn't been put under a groupname as far as I know. Maybe after issue 8 of 1990 (every year it started from issue 1 to...), it changed... That was one of the last issues I have got. But if I remember well, they made an end to it and I think issue 8 (1990) was the last.

Twoffie+CMR: thanks for your info guys! Need it, keep posting!
I am still waiting on some paper mags to arrive from people, hopefully Scorpie will send soon, he has a pile he will send.
ok regarding some of the mags mentioned:
BRAINFART:
More than 1 issue was released, not sure how many issues but I have an issue which was released at the Party 5 in Denmark (1995 of course). It was edited by Dodger and TGI of Paralyze.
ESCAPISM:
I have the first issue released by Ikon Visual and edited by Punk Executioner/IKV. IKV also did a paper issue of their magazine REASON FOR TREASON.
HACKERS UNIT:
Was released by SACRED and edited by Lord Crucifer. I think only two issues were release, can confirm this with Splatterhead, S.D.I. or one of the other ex-Sacred guys.
---
Other mags to include:
MIDLIFE CRISIS: (atl. 4 issues)
Edited by Mr.Bungle and was released in the New Zealand scene. Issue #3 was released in August 1993.
VENDETTA: (atl. 1 issue)
Another New Zealand mag, edited by the Rogue. First issue on 10/4/93.
DISK COVER MAGAZINE: (atl. 2 issues)
The whole magazine was on the front and back of a standard sized disk cover! Released by CAVERN, a polish group. Issue #2 released in August 1991.
VIOLATION: (1 issue)
1st issue of the mag, later 5 more issues on disk.
Released by The Digital Underground and edited by Iceman and 8-Ball. Australian mag.
DECAY: (atl. 1 issue)
Released and edited by The Heavyweight/Chrome. 1st issue in May 1991. Australian mag.
MYSTERY: (atl. 1 issue)
Released by MILENERI, edited by Marcello. 1st issue released in 1995. Dutch mag.
Hope some more people can convert any c64 scene paper mags to PDF or snail me the originals for the online database.

Also searching for any issues of Paradise Island - the follow-up to Illegal by Jeff Smart. Also early German issues of Illegal.
Thanks to CMR, Scorpie, Mirage, Cresh, Nucleus and some more I have managed to track down quite a few.
Recent progress is that we will have all 5 issues of the Nato&The Blasters mag 'Smasher' online.
