Kings Bounty problem
Hey, I couldn't find any comments or forum entries on any release of King's Bounty, so here's my problem/request.
The version I have on disk is the original North East Crackers' 2-sided version, which doesn't work properly. It starts from the beginning, which is nice, but every time I try to buy a catapult, the game crashes - specifically, the disk will not load the purchase completely. This happens on a lot of different versions I've found, unless the version is an old game with the character having the catapult already, which is not what I want.
So, is there somewhere a completely working crack (preferably one-sided) that starts from the beginning? Thanks.
edit: whoa, that delurk took a while... |

You can try this one: King's Bounty +3F
Its one side and with trainers.
Let me know if it works... also please drop me an email (find it on my profile) as I might need to ask about a few more things |

Mason kindly pointed me to this thread and supplied me with a blank (unplayed) NEC/I+T copy. I've made a version of the NEC/I+T crack which (PAL-)fixes this problem. However, since I've added no intro, it's not a release according to csdb standards, so I can't add it here. PM me with your email address and I can send it.
EDIT: And by (PAL-)fixing I mean that the problem only occurs on PAL c64s. Perhaps this fix makes it the first fully PAL-compatible version, who knows? |

I coded an intro for you:
10 PRINT"{CLR}PAL FIX BY J0X"
20 LOAD"KINGS BOUNTY/NEC",PEEK(186)
Put the files on a d64 and release.

load"blah",peek(186) doesn't work, you have to put it in a var and use that
20 d=peek(186):LOAD"KINGS BOUNTY/NEC",d

Good one ;)
According to Burglar (http://csdb.dk/forums/?roomid=8&topicid=58095#58380, just before the thread spiralled into monkey-style poo-flinging) static decrunch text does not constitute an intro. I assume this also goes for static load text?

That's just Burglar's personal opinion. Check out early cracks, they often don't have anything other than static text. In some cases only initials on the SYS line or text on the game's title screen.
Then again, we would of course all prefer a nice little intro, but a fixed version of King's Bounty is worthy of a release regardless of the intro quality. |

I know, but the CSDb ruleset does not cover releases predating said rules.
Besides, this whole peek(186) thing is academic -- this version only supports drive 8 - blame NEC :)

Oh well, I should've posted here once the problem was solved. I got the game working on a PAL C64 by using a PAL-fixed crack on side 1 and a copy of an unplayed original for side 2. But it wouldn't hurt to have a true one-sided unplayed PAL-fixed crack. |

Yes, on a non-PALfixed version, purchasing a catapult *will* work on a PAL machine sometimes (less than 50% chance by my reckoning), so you might get lucky :) |
