vice emulator to video?
vice emulator to video? I may be a fool here but are there any pipelines to record c64 recordings from vice in realtime frame by frame and with sound? Maybe it is in there somewhere? Or maybe one do use another software to do that? |

At least in my version of VICE (on Mac) there is "Record Media" in the menu, and that works for me.. |

That option should be under SNAPSHOT. There is an option there for recording I believe you can use that? I have never used it, but I am pretty sure it's what your looking for. |

Isn't snapshot when you save the whole state of the emulator rather than media such as images or videos? Can't remember right now never used those features much anyway. |

yes the option is under snapshot... you have to have the ffmpeg lib installed (or the dll in the vice dir on windows) and the respective option must be enabled before compiling it too :) |

Yes, Snapshot => Save/stop media file...then under that sub-menu select your driver (after installing ffmpeglib of course, as Groepaz said) and configuration options for FFMPEG, such as video format, codec, and bitrate.
I used this to make videos suitable for YouTube a year or so ago, and was using Vice 2.1 (I believe, poss 2.0) with XP and I did not have to do a recompile in that case using the binary distribution of my Windows version. I only had to install ffmpeg lib. Hope this helps. |

must be in vice dir:
avcode-51.dll (or newer)
avformat-51.dll (or newer)
avutil-49.dll (or newer)
These are part of ffmpeg

hmm.. I remember v2.1 worked fine but I just tried this with v2.2 (win32) to record our new demo and am having no luck. (I have to use v2.2 as it's Vic-20 and won't work properly on the previous one) Also tried with x64 and later builds from the testing thread here.
Trying the avcodec binaries off the Vice website or the later 5.2 don't seem to bring any joy for me. Unless I'm missing something desperately obvious it used to be:
1) put .dlls into Vice directory.
2) Run x64 , choose Snapshot / Save/Stop Media file.
3) Change Type to AVI (iirc) so FFMPEG settings aren't greyed out anymore.
4) ???
5) Profit!
Unfortunately there's no video type in the list, only screenshot formats. Any ideas? I don't seem to have those dlls lurking anywhere else on my system. |

With v2.2 you need newer ffmpeg dlls
avcodec-52.dll
avdevice-52.dll
avformat-52.dll
avutil-49.dll
this is one of the (hundreds) things never explained in vice dox but you have to track down looking into sources =) |

Ahh, thanks for the help. I tried the install from Audacity's docs but gives me the same result. :( Anyway, I'll keep looking. |

install divx and/or xvid, then it will be able to save videos on that. |

aarrrgg..
I've been trying to get this .avi-option to work.. but seems to me that I'm not capable to do it properly..
Ffmpeg files on the machine aswell as all the .dll files in Vice dir but still no effect.
What kind of an installation do ffmpeg need? With the instructions given with it, no chance for me. :-o
I've been trying to do it with 2.2
.... help ... please.
