looking for an Oxyron demo with some kind of fire clouds
hi, i,am looking for an Oxyron demo with some kind of fire clouds/effect.
As far as i can remember it was in an intro and Graham used an illigal opcode
that makes the effect extremly fast. sorry for being lazy
but going through all the oxyron demo is a bit too much.. |

Comalight 12 had fire in intro with overlayed text in sprites appearing timed into perfect music composed by PRI (if I remember right) |

Could be "Coma Light 12" or "The Masque". Both used a fire effect as intro.

That's why I remember it. It was top class intro. You see when musician takes timing to his hands.. ;-)) |

oh no. i never rip code... but i want to know how Graham
was able to do it in this highspeed... and i also don't
have the idea that i can improve it.. Graham is a much
better coder than i am.. But what is wrong with learning it
from the best??.

You usually dont learn much from anything that went through several iterations of optimization... |

bumping up a 2 year old thread for a bit of trolling: priceless.
anyway back in the heydays the scene wasnt as friendly, and coding tricks were guarded, your only chance was to go in with monitor and try to understand :) |

i agree ... most of it you have to learn step by step (better without opt.) ... i can't imagine that there are people who can understand full optimized assembler code on the fly :) *respectIfYouCan* |

that means the scene was dead in 1988. one of the first things i recieved from fellow demosceners were disks filled with routines to look at and use :)
that said: the type of effect mentioned in the original question (fire running in char mode) can be easily done fast enough with just a bit of unrolling, no magic required :) |
