Demos with menus
Menu demos were popular in some machines like CPC and especially AtariSt. It was like separate parts but now you didn't had to press Space, rather than choosing a part from a wild menu. The typical menu on St for example was a sprite walking, climbing laders and entering doors. There was a space shoot'em up menu in a famous CPC demo. Or I can't forget the great landscape flight menu from an AtariSt demo!
It's interesting how these kinds of demo were copied a lot of times, especially in AtariSt scene but at the same time I can't remember having seen a menu demo on C64 (and other machines). I wondered if there is a C64 demo of the same logic that I have missed.. |

there have been a few on c64 and amiga also, but they were only popular for a short time since demo evolution quickly went onwards to new demo styles. example: mist 2/vision. |

I really hate menu demos! It's really annoying that you have to go back to the same menu just to load the next part. Flash Inc did Channel 64. And I hardly ever watch it.

These are two NTSC demos with menus that I've been involved with:
NTSC Co-op 1997

RPG also released a demo, "The Undead", which incorporated a menu system.
The Undead
If I remember right, I think some version of Krestology also had a menu, but it only allowed you to start the demo from a specific point (so you didn't have to sit through the entire thing).

Ice Cream Castle, from Crest, had some sort of a menu too, you could select beforehand what parts you wanted to see, so you did not return after every part to the menu.
All in all, one of my favourite demos!

Legalize It by Vision (1988). Unfortunately the menu wasn't loaded back after leaving a part so you had to reset & load the menu yourself. |

It's not a demo you look at again any time soon. What a lame idea!
The menu thing in Ice Cream is the best one so far.

Ice Cream Castle, how could I forget that! And what a clever idea..
Some demos offer cool part selectors (like +H2K), a bit diferrent than the menu game I was thinking.
Menus are fun but annoying sometimes, I remember one on the CPC demo Divine where you moved a sprite through a Super Mario stage and hit boxes with question marks but then again if you finished watching one part then you had to start from the very beginning of the stage and walk a lot of screens to see the next parts :P
Also, I lately watched an AtariSt demo were there was a menu where you could choose beetween 3 submenus!!! ;)
Thanks for the other suggestions, I will check them soon. |

If you get http://hjem.get2net.dk/nmioaon/TSTDEMOS.zip
There's a demo called Cool as Wize from 1987, it has a good
menu loading system, where you return to the menu after
watching a part.
