DMC questions
I have to find out how to write music on the C64. I ran DMC, tried to blindly find some keys, but I was lost :P
Is there a link with 1) a manual (with key combinations and stuff), 2) a tutorial?
Also. Is it possible with DMC or another tracker to support sync events for music syncing? I mean,. on the CPC there was finally a new music tracker released, where I can set some sync events in the patterns and later my code reads a memory address with values in order to know when exactly to display the next transition/effect. Else, I have to do this manually via trial and error. Does DMC or any other C64 tracker support such kind of sync events? How do you sync demoeffects with music anyways?
p.s. But first answer about the manual/tutorial because it's very precious for me :) |

Which version of DMC you use?
And yeah e.g. I have modigied my DMC5.0+ to utilise ADR command for timing marks. (which I don't use at all (I hope some musician coleagues won't blame me for that ;-)
I've used this timing mark feature in Universal Dmagic Birthday Demo ;-)) |

DMC isn't technically a tracker is it? Anyway, here's a DMC tutorial by Richard Bayliss:

Btw Optimus, it might be a better idea to try John Player, it has a built in help screen and is generally much easier to learn than DMC. You can always move on to other editors later if you want.
Another good thing about JP is it takes very little raster time compared to DMC, so you'll have more time left for your funky effects. John Player 2.0 doesn't come with a relocator yet, so it might be best to use v1.5 or v1.6 for now. |

I checked the DMC tutorial yesterday at night. It showed me some key combinations I was missing, but it doesn't seem to explain what are many of these values it sets on the instruments and filters. I don't like that..
I guess I will download and try John Player for the moment then ;)
Thanks for the help again! |
