Text:Halloween. The time when annoying little local scally brats knock at your door begging for money, disguised cunningly as "trick or treat". The time when they knock three weeks early and expect money from you for no apparent reason other than the fact that they think it's their given right to frighten the old people of their area. The really clever ones even decide to incorporate "penny for the guy" into their cunningly disguised begging session. What's supposed to be a celebration of Ghouls and Ghosts (not the arcade game, natch!) turns into a night of fear and worry for local residents where the trick will be having the car windows or doors scratched by a waster who should know better. Halloween. The night the TV channel predictably decides to show one of the Halloween or Friday the 13th movies (delete as applicable). We've seen them enough, thank you. The John Carpenter soundtrack at least is a classic and can be heard any time of year, anyway. Halloween. The night of obvious reference to some ancient witchcraft type ritual, which has to be under question as to if they do actually exist or not. Or were the medieval times that far removed from the corporate non-caring America-is-always-right-whatever-the-circumstances world we live in today? Trick or treat is also their fault. Blame them ;) Halloween. The only time of the year you seem to be able to find a pumpkin down the local supermarket, despite the fact that you're vegetarian and actually like the taste of pumpkin soup more than once a year. The only time you'll ever consider purchasing a black plastic bin liner so you can try to wear it as a witch or wizard's cape in a hopeless attempt to look convincing. Halloween. A brilliant song by Sonic Youth. No more needs to be said.
