Release id #131846 : SID-Wizard 1.7
I have tried every tracker I could find here, and this is easily my favorite
I'm a SID beginner and only casual-wannabee musician.
So I have not extensively tested all the trackers, nor SW, other than by playing as many demo tunes for each that I could find, and experimenting with the settings, with my limited experience.
What if anything, have you found limiting with SW, or that you can do more easily with your tracker of choice ?
Or maybe not the tracker, but your preferred player routine? |

SW and SDI are the best.
what i like on SDI is you dont have +++ for long notes, it clutters the view, instead you use 7x to cut a sound.
Stay with SW now mstram, and learn it.
dont waste your time on old programs.
make music in it, and experiment on sounds.
It takes 6+ months to get used to such a tracker, and when you control it in every detail, then you can do advanced tunes. |

when you make music, finish it.
if its bad, change it.
never leave "ideas" on the disk.
only do 1 tune at the time, and plan it out on a piano kb, what to play. the more plan, the better result.
composing from head, it comes with practise.
you shouldnt start with it. |

SDI is also one of my favorites.
It's biggest "warts" are :
1) latest release can't read "old" (1.8) files
2) Making a SID out of it, seems to be a convoluted complicated process (Turbo Assem) etc.
SW and SDI seem to have the most demo songs available.
As for playing with old trackers, it's just as fun (up to a point heh), as using the new stuff.
The lack of documentation for the old stuff, usually has me dropping them.
Heh, unless like with Laxity, I find something interesting / different about them. |

In my opinion SDI is not for beginners - I find the UI messy and it is a complex routine+editor. Ofcourse people can do amazingly great stuff with this editor. But many other editors are much easier to get started with.
Personally I also do like the +++ and --- to indicate wether gate is on or off, especially if you do more advanced envelope stuff where you need to toggle gate on/off during a note.
Just my opinion - good luck with finding what suits your needs.

just read the fucking DOC, and do the examples.
load a tune by grg, and change some bytes.
delete tune, and use grg sounds.
you learn, because you WANT |
