Quote: checking general compo rules...
"Your entry (or part of it) may not have been released before the party actually takes place."

how strict is that rule? so all sid used must be brand new? same for any gfx? chars included?

I know that sounds like a stupid question (ok, it's a stupid question), but it's better to clarify now as I don't want my supercool demo ranked #1 and then see it squalified for reusing CBM fonts... :)

The rule is not that strict. The only reason why we use it is to prevent already (or partially) released demos and demoparts from entering the competition.

that rule is on all parties, just use common sense. music / gfx/demo that already competed can not reenter compos. and I dont remember ever a demo being disqualified because of reused gfx/code/music. it might happen still if most of the demo is already released, but no1 did such a demo so far.

Hi. Thanks Tim and Oswald for the reply.
It has been a while since my last 8bit party (I guess Lady D was still alive back then) so I don't know much about standard demoparty rules...

Tim,

Would you guys please blast some Linus / Jammer / whoever tunes from the PA system before the music compo, just to make sure the bass won't clip and go blurry this time. :-)

What I've seen and heard, many times the bass settings has been too loud and even spoiled a few entrys.

But of course you already knew this, just had to let it out this time.. Really excited to come to Someren again and to see all the great guys (and demos of course).

No worries, Flex.

I've heard it through the grapevine that the orgas are going to blast those infamous Linus tunes the whole-time-24/7-as-long-as-the-party-lasts-even-during
-the-sid-compo(tm) anyway.

Just so you know.

Hi Flex,

Thanx for your comment I will forward it to our audio engineer. He is on vacation so he will probably react later.

Hi Flex,

I'm sorry to hear you weren't happy with the sound at our previous events. But you must admit, we've come a long way. From crappy bedroom speakers in the 90's to a pair of EON's, to two full professional PA systems covering two halls. All made possible because of you and all other sceners who are willing to pay 90 euro's for an all inclusive C64 scene weekend which is solely organized by volunteers.

Within the budget that is given to me I try to get a sound and light set to accomodate 300+ people as good as possible. To reduce transport cost, I have to rent the stuff from local companies which makes the amount of choices I have a lot smaller. So if it means I have to make due with a muddy subwoofer to be able to stay within budget, than so be it. I'll make the best of it and try to have fun, as that is why I'm doing this.
I too would want the X to be able to provide a nice high end PA at the party but unless everybody is willing to pay more, or more people show up that won't happen.

The last two X events, I had before hand (I think it was with Jammer) set the system EQ to compensate a bit for the muddy lows and we played all compo SID's with the same EQ settings on the desk (flat), which I think is only fair but I won't mingle in that discussion.

This time, because of the small entrance fee increase we now have sliced cheese and I had a little more money to juggle with aswell. I was able to get a setup that could turn out to be a lot nicer than the mackie set we had at X10 and 12. I have worked with EAW speakers before and in my experience they deliver. As they are rentals I don't know what state they're in, how old they are or how much beer has been pored in them but we'll see in oktober.

Fingers crossed ;)

in 2010, i remember being invited, along with other musicians, to test and adjust the soundsetup before compos. i don't remember anyone criticizing the result. perhaps that's the way - let the most interested guys intervene :)

what proved to be useful for us at revision: setup EQ _before_ getting intoxicated. and DO NOT TOUCH after that =)
