codebase64

Anybody know what happened, it seems to have been nuked?

https://codebase64.org/ just shows a cgi-bin from 2017 and any links to a known page return "well this should be a 404 but they don't even have a 404 page"

It's just the URL that's down so it can still be found here of course: https://codebase64.pokefinder.org/doku.php

Hi guys! All the data is intact, so no worries in that regard. Only some trouble with the domain name. Like Moloch wrote in another thread, he has owned the domain name, but now he accidentally dropped it. I sent him a message about it, but no reply so far. Anyhow, Moloch has generously provided the domain name for quite a few years. I am very grateful for that!

I know very little about domains and DNS and stuff, so maybe you guys can help me out here. Do I understand correctly if I believe that the only way to get the domain back at this point would be to buy it through godaddy specifically?

Then again; another option is simply to use https://codebase64.pokefinder.org/ instead, which works already at this point. I guess the content is what matters the most, and not necessarily the domain name, even though it looks sweet with a "real" domain name of course. Changing the domain will result in broken links in other places on the web though, where there are links to codebase64.org, so that's an aspect too. Perhaps.

While I am prepared to do the work of being in charge of the site also in the future, I am not prepared to pay for it, so if you guys thinks we need codebase64.org again — the domain name I mean — please let me know if you would be able to contribute financially.

For the record, I should also say that Count Zero has a huge part in running Codebase64 at the moment. More than me actually, since he does all the work related to the web server and does all kinds of fixes and changes in configuration behind the scenes. That is more work than the little "work" I do with the site.

I’d say: stay with the most economical and sweet url in the future. If no one wanna pay for the original url, stay with pokefinder. Broken links, sure, but that makes more people active. If they are active.

I'd have been willing to purchase it and do the redirect. But it looks like someone's already snapped it up - hopefully not some automated domain-sitter business.

If I'm not mistaken (as I wrote in: Sizecoding section at Codebase64), this domain can be renewed within about 70 days.
Every global domain after expiring goes into Grace Period (35 days), then into Redemption Period (30 days).
Domain in the Grace Period can be renewed without any additional fees (means standard price only) and still belongs to the owner!
Domain in the Redemption Period can be renewed with additional fees + standard price.

Domain is being freed after about 70 days.

Thanks for the offer! I appreciate the generosity.

Spapped up... Aha. Well.... If that's the case, then the issue may already be settled, regardless. Unless Gordian is right, that it can still be claimed by the original owner (Moloch) in some way?

Personally I am fine with the codebase64.pokefinder.org solution though, similar to what Hedning expressed, unless it turns out to be easily doable to get the codebase64.org domain back.

@Moloch: Should I interpret that as "I (Moloch) will renew it, I just didn't have time to do it yet" or "I could renew it, if only someone else steps up and pays for it", or something else?
