SX-64 screen/kernal/eprom mod?
I have an SX-64 that the screen reads:
***** COFRESI'S LAIR *****
64K RAM SYSTEM 38911 BASIC BYTES FREE
READY.
vice
**** SX-64 Basic V2.0 ****
64K RAM SYSTEM 38911 BASIC BYTES FREE
READY.
Anyone know if this was just a reburn to the eprom? or is this a complete replacement chip that the previous owner had made by someone.
If it is a custom chip is anyone still doing this. I have searched the www but have come up mt handed.

Looks to me like a "hey-i-got-an eprom-burner-let's-replace-the-ROM-with-a-C00l-msg"-project. :) |

Looks like a reburn. I did the same and changed the colours etc. on my SX-64. |

Can you give me some info on how you did it, what equipment you used, software used, etc...
Did you read the info out from the orignal ROM chip or did you get a bin file off the net and then edited it with?
This info is on the basic ROM? Correct?

I did it during the time I only owned C64's, about 15 years ago. Saved the ROM and had a copy on disk, edited and burnt it back using an EPROM-burner. |

does anyone know where I can find pin compatible eproms for 64 kernel etc?

@style: I don't think there are any. Atleast the original C64 uses mask-roms, and they have fewer pins. I usually just took a regular 2764, and made an adapter by bending some pins on the EPROM, putting it into a socket and adding a few wires.
BTW, I have an EPROM burner for the c64 for sale if anyone needs it. Eraser too. |

8 kB ROMs are 24-pin, and 8 kB EPROMs are 28-pin, so you have to use an adapter. Nicolas Welte sells nice ones that you can order here:

recently I put 128k FLASH from dead PC mobo in place of 2764 (can be and 2364 too) - I just quite simply changed contents of a cartridge, it can be kernal or basic or whateva too. actually no adapter needed , only few wires. PM me if anyone interested |
