Right. And not since yesterday either. I remember even in my (and Oliver's) "Universal Makefile" effort was put to make it compatible with native [GNU] make on Windows and it's been over a decade ago :-)

Hehe - might be. It was Oliver who insisted on (and tested) Windows / cmd.exe compatibility ;-) I wasn't against – why would I be? – but never had a chance to check and see what horrors lurk in there |

Either that, or some Amiga nerd running OS 3.9 and cpu accelerator + dual CD-ROM burners in a bigtower setup. |
