Handle id #16488 : FatFrost

I met FatFrost at X in Holland once and we kept sporadic contact after that. He was such a nice, fun and warm person. My thoughts goes to his family and friends, especially his 4 year old daughter. Rest in peace, Richard. :'(

I first met FatFrost at a party and I immediately felt that this is someone to get to know. He was beaming with positive vibes and had a great smile. In chats afterwards this atmosphere continued and he kept returning to the subject of the TurboChameleon64. This is so sad. Condolences to his family.

Such an awesome and friendly guy!

I'm completely gutted and shocked to hear this tragic news about Richard. :( One of the nicest and positive men I have ever met in my life!

First knew him in 2007 here online and I had many chats with him ... I always remember he wanted to organise "8-bit Bonk" ... a party of C64, beer, hot girls and so on... ;D

We eventually got in touch on the phone about arranging a car trip from England to X'2012 demoparty ... and so, I picked him up (as well as Polish scener Scarab) in the car I was using for the trip.

That car trip was something I will never forget... he was the talkative man with a big heart and a very cultured being with a lot of stories to tell, not just on C64 but his life and surroundings in general... it kept us going throughout that very long trip from Teesside -> Rotherham -> Nottingham -> London -> Dover -> France -> Belgium -> Netherlands -> X'2012.

Half-way there, he expressed many ideas about games that could be made on C64, demo-effects and so on... he was a true visionary with many ideas.

On the way back from X'2012 demoparty, we went to his mother's house for a small break, that was his dropping-off point... while there, he gave me a huge block of home-made Wensleydale cheese (which took a good month to consume :)) as well as a bottle of one of the finest whiskeys... not only that, he literally gave me a full Commodore C64 set with datasette and tapes (it was the Commodore "Mindbenders" edition with Marilyn Monroe on the box), I still have it in my cupboard, unopened because it is so clean and new! ... All of this must have been his thank-you gift for me taking him to his first C64 demoparty. :)

Writing all this is making me sad... I wished I could have transported him to further demoparties but I wasn't there afterwards... but now he is no longer with us. :((

Seriously, one of the nicest men in the C64 scene you could ever meet!

R.I.P Richard Frost (aka FatFrost) ... I send my deepest condolences to his family and everyone who knew and loved him.

Your old C64 bro, Owen / Conrad.

@Hedning ... didn't know he has a very young daughter ... omg what a tragic time for her. :(

that's terrible, the guy was only 44, so many things still ahead of him. the fact that he had a small kid makes it even worse. this is utterly depressing. so sorry for you Richard. we've met only once, but i'll remember you forever.

Feels utterly frustrating and unnecessary that he was taken away just as I thought we're on the safe side with the Covid. Richard was a 100% family man, who absolutely adored her daughter and he asked me to do a little screen with him for her birthday on 29th of Dec. That obviously won't happen now, but I was thinking of sending her a physical present on the day to honour Richard's wish. Anyone want to join, please PM.

Two things come to mind, a Hookah and Pierogi. I enjoyed our messages whilst I was living in NZ and feeling homesick.

I'm clearly taken aback by the sad news of his depature from this earthly plane.

Adieu!

This is devastating news.

I've met Richard at X'2012 as they came there with Conrad. He was super keen on using my charmode pixel editor Slixed. AFAIK he was the only one using it for real.
Constantly supporting and motivating me. Such dedicated, warm and positive person. We've chatted a lot via email since then, I knew he had a Polish girlfriend and a daughter.
Rest in Peace Brother <3

I don't know what to say. I was friended by him on FB, dunno how long ago, we never talked or met, I just knew he was around from his posts at Fb. All I could do was sending few bucks to the family fundraiser and shared a post with fundraiser at c64.sk FB. Most of us are approaching the age when deaths will be more frequent, it's sad but inevitable. Take care everybody and live your life to the fullest.

Richard, rest in peace.

I briefly knew Richard in the nineties when we swapped discs and he joined my demo group, Ozone (unfortunately it was right when I was moving on to other things so nothing came of it).

I found a disc he sent me with some graphics and a note. I'll send a d64 of the disc and some screenshots on to his family.

RIP Richard.

@xeer, that's interesting about the disk with his old / unreleased work on it... would you care to share this with us? Or maybe one of us could code a demo showcasing it?

There's been some talk about collecting his unreleased works and releasing it as a slideshow, but it would be crucial to know what's the status on getting Richard's work files from his family - anyone working actively on this? Would be nice to have a complete collection on one disk and make a YT video of it, so his family can see it too without having to learn how to run C64 proggies. I have some of his unreleased double screen pics and I believe HCL too has something.

I briefly got in touch with his sisters via fb soon after releasing my own prod and, iirc, they might retrieve FatFrost's workfiles with extra help of their friend. But that's already beyond me - I wouldn't dare to pry, hurry them up or sth.

I asked the person helping in retrieving the files. He's on it and will report once something happens, so let's wait. Some time ago FatFrost told me he has over 150 unfinished/unreleased pics and from the little that he's shown, I know there's going the be a lot of beautiful stuff among those files. I sure hope they can be retrieved and wrapped up in one last release.
