C64GFX: References and Workstages

We recently added “references” and “workstages” details to https://C64GFX.com ..

Mostly for my own use, I added a few “hidden” pages listing all the images that we’ve added these for. You can find these here:-

https://c64gfx.com/references.html
https://c64gfx.com/workstages.html

There also:-

https://c64gfx.com/ai.html

If anyone can find more, please feel free to let us know.. either replying here or, better yet, use the “Suggest Changes” button on the page of the image that you think references or workstages need to be added for - just write in the comment there or attach a file. Where possible I try to add credits and links to the original artist… lots of links to Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell of course amongst others :-)

It would be great to get more help fleshing this stuff out :-)

Although it is in the AI list, I don't think that Spawn Ninja is AI-generated. The artist also says in the comments that it is hand-drawn.

Thanks Wil, I've updated that now...

And I've added another batch of references. 293 now. If I concentrated on early 90s gfx compos I could probably get a lot more - but I don't want my wife thinking that I'm ogling at Boris Vallejo pics all day ;p

Thanks to everyone who helped already :-)

I wonder how the scraping works. For example here is a mismatch between picture (faun by Electric) and workstages : https://c64gfx.com/image/232941

Ahh, sorry, that’s my fault. It’s a very manual process - but for myself a very quick one. I hope to open source everything soon and probably do some vlog where I scrape a load of things and do various site updates etc.

For 1 person it’s a much much quicker way to update… but it’s not a CMS so doesn’t scale so well right now.

Something else I’ve created… here’s a list of graphics on CSDb that has no graphics type specified.

https://c64gfx.com/releaseswithnogfxtype

I could automatically fix many of these on C64GFX by automatically detecting common types - MC, hires, PET and FLI.. that would probably bring the list right down to something manageable .. but fixing the types on CSDb is a long manual process I think.. unless someone knows a quicker way?

Re: automatically fixing the types… for now I’m not going to do this. As I’ve gone through some of the untagged types I realised that many of the screenshots on C64GFX will need updating: as many images, especially the older ones, are interlace… so those will need re-grabbing from the releases anyway.

Yeah, it’s a big long process.

Hm. Not sure if everything entered in the "AI Ninja" compo really was AI generated.

This "Shuri-Ken" (1) just looks like a photoshopped word play refering to "Shuriken" (2) which was released a day before.

I’ve PM’ed Skyffel. The pic is surely converted either from photo(s) or AI. I tried image search, though, and got no similarity hits so I do suspect it’s
AI.. but maybe Skyffel can confirm.

Thanks to everyone that’s already helped!

Another page I think is good to look at:

https://c64gfx.com/artist/0/unknown

This one shows all the GFX that we have where we don’t know the credit. With any of these, if you know, please click on the screenshot and then hit the “suggest changes” button to let us know :-)

Cheers!
