database bug?
strange thing, noticed it with Combat Crazy +7 and Combat Crazy +7H - both entries are correctly credited to Master (released by).
now, if you add new release, and enter "combat crazy" as name, it will (correctly) find those two releases.
BUT - if you just search for it in the regular search, they will NOT get displayed (WTF).
additionally, if you look at the scener entry of Master - its not there either! (WTF)
edit: and it doesnt show on the frontpage either :) |

Quoting hedningAs a first step we decided it was easier to do like we have done for ages with IDE64 and Super CPU releases, aka. non stock stuff. The clean stock productions are still sorted like they should. It's not crazy many of them. There are about 200 EasyFlash releases and not many REU-releases, so it should be easy enough to find what you are looking for if you want a specific EasyFlash thing.
Easier is not always better. While it seems the best of the worst solutions, it's almost always one or even two steps back.
But hey, I'm not a database designer, I just love clean and reliable data :-) |

Quoting GroepazQuote:but how do we distinguish if a REU-release is a game, demo, tool, or whatever, now? Am I missing or not seeing somethings you guys do see?
why implement it like it was planned many years ago when you can just aswell monkey patch it?
you should know how it works here by now =)
I guess you're right ;) |

We did roll out some of this stuff to get rid of tags in the entry names (ntsc fixes, broken release etc etc). Sure, it would be great to get it all implemented, but we are too few that actually upload, manage, update and take care of the database, and too many that just lurks around, whines and spends time creating dramas, using CSDb as an alterantive Facebook. :/ |

NONE of that is related to how nothing gets implemented. There is one single reason why nothing happened for years. And you know it. |

You refer to the prophecy of The One who will bring balance to the Force? |

You can make fun of it all you want, it doesnt change anything. |

I will fill up the database with releases instead. We have what we have. The One could make the system different/better, but until then we have what we have, and what we have is better than nothing. |

you didnt get the point (which ammo was already hinting at). adding this new releasetype and using it instead of keeping the proper releasetype and have the extra info in the name *removes* info from the db. it doesnt improve anything, it makes things worse. |

We have had Super CPU, C128 and IDE64 categories for ages. This move only cleans up the mess a bit and adds to this (perhaps faulty) logic. When a new system is ready it will be an easy job to sort the separated categories into the mainframe. If they weren't separated they would be harder to find, and I also wonder who will do the rest of the job with the other 170000 releases. |

"We have had Super CPU, C128 and IDE64 categories for ages."
and those should have been eliminated instead of adding more nonsense on the pile.
"When a new system is ready it will be an easy job to sort the separated categories into the mainframe."
nope, it will be a manual job for someone to look at every single entry and choose the right releasetype.
"If they weren't separated thew would be harder to find"
nope, the info was already in the filenames - and moving those into the proper db entries would be the matter of writing a simple script. |
