PAL to PAL imports

Might be an interesting topic why some people or groups smacked an intro infront of a release for "importing" a game from one european country to the other.
I remember in Germany we exchanged disks from hand to hand or swapped disks by mail to get the latest stuff. Maybe there are other countries where it was much harder to get you hands on new stuff. Where you had to have a modem to exchange stuff because the others lived too far away (feeling the same like importing from overseas). So you needed to have either a lot of money or the possibility to call for free.

Hehe. But I am mainly asking for countries where it was possibly needed to do "real" importing... if there are any.

the question then is what makes "importing" "real" :=)

a lot of the polish (and other eastern europe) "imports" for example were probably supplied via snail mail. and tons of the canadian "imports" were downloaded from neighbour bbs by local lamers :)

The Force (Israel) did quite a few imports in those days (i.e. put their own intro in front of cracks and state "Imported to Israel by Danny". I would assume they had a BBS as well since the original swapper of the disks I own got hold of a few of them. Dr.J may know more about this.

After all this intro-slapping doesn't make them so much different than many US imports, mainly from the 1987/88 era which just had an intro slapped in front it aswell.

Iirc The Force Australia were modem-trading a lot, don't know about the Israelis.

Your question is quite easy to answer. Because it's been fun, easy to do for lazy lamers and brought a small amount of (local) fame. Remember, they were teenagers.

Everyone can't crack.... attaching in intro before made them some fame..

But I don't get it why document "import"... I've imported lots of stuff.. don't know if I were the fastest or slowest.. big deal..
