WiFi modem that can be used for BBS server?

I wonder if there is a WiFi modem available for the C64 that would be possible to use for a BBS server?

At the moment I have Markus Borgelin's wifi modem and the manual says:
"To have a BBS Server, you will probably need RI-signal, which this modem does not supply. I will have to look further into this. But you can call from one terminal to another, i.e. someone calls you at your server port while you are in a terminal."

...but maybe there is some other WiFi modem available that supports this?

Also, since the text from the manual above states that it is possible to answer calls manually using Borgelin's modem, I wonder if it would be possible to create some kind of software workaround that attempts to pick up a call once every 3 seconds or so, and then detect if there is someone there who tries to call?

IIRC RI isnt really required - the modem sends a "RING" string anyway (or well, it should).

that said, ppl are using various different so called "wifi modems" for BBSs. i'd try bo zimmermanns firmware :)

Thanks!

If someone knows about a specific wifi modem that works for sure, please confirm.

This (pretty expensive one) is said to be able to recieve incoming calls: https://jammingsignal.com/commodore-wi-fi-modem/ (overview here: https://www.slideshare.net/leifbloomquist1/wifi-modem-for-the-c.. )

I have one that I never use (As I bought Borgelin's cheaper and smaller one) so I haven't really tried if it works with incoming calls. If you would like to try it, you can borrow mine.

"If you want to run a Commodore BBS program using the modem, you'll want to configure the BBS program to the same idle baud rate that your modem is using (1200 baud by default), configure it for a Hayes style modem (or the C=1670), and either create a persistant listener using AT+CONFIG, or use an initialization string of "ATR0E0S0=1S41=1A6400" plus any other recommended settings from the BBS program. This creates a listener at port 6400 that switches directly to stream mode on the first ring, with no linefeed carriage returns, and no keystroke echo. Your BBS program may require you add certain other settings, such as V0 or X1.. which you should also do."

This firmware seems to be an active project.

Thanks again for answers! Useful information indeed. At the same time I take this to mean that nobody on here actually has first hand experience with using a wifi modem to run C*Base or so?

Nice. I wonder which of the wifi modems he is using. He doesn't seem to be a user on here.

It says so when you log in, indeed.
