Downvoting, for what reasons?
Seems I got two inverse mega fans. They gave me a set of 1 point votes.
I was a bit interested in finding out who that was, since I've never heard of them or seen any posts from either of them on CSDb.
The votes in question are registered to Auslaender and abracadabra, which is perfectly ok, if they think I suck...
At first I just clicked the abracadabra link and some pretty empty profile with a picture of a magician showed (refered to a guy call Mira, too!). I thought, hmm, strange.. Maybe someone who'd like to conceal himself or something... Didn't think much of it to be honest.
I wasn't untill another one showed. Auslaender!. Strange handle, but then again, we're strange people most of us.. I wonder who that is!.. No profile, when doing a profile search.. Though I'd search the forum for posts, and .. bang... All my indifferent discussions with Nata showed, only Nata showing as Auslaender!.. Sigh!.. Why?.. For what use?.. I don't get it.. He can vote me all the way to the bottom of the list for all I care, but I'm really disappointed.. I hope someone else hacked his profile or something, because that would mean that I didn't misjudge Nata in the past. |

Quote: Cool, TDJ is bringing up his idea at least twice a year, and I couldn't agree more. But what makes you think anything will change, at all? This is the 34th topic about downvoting/transparent votes for God's sake.
And btw. voting a 4, 5 or 6 often makes more negative impact on a high rating than a 1 or 3. Anonmymous downvoters would just set their rate a bit higher and remain nameless...
You don't get it do you? By constantly bringing this up I slowly influence Perff to do the right thing. Just wait, in 2018 he will follow my advice! |

all votes should be public and there should be a "Vote Bitching" subforum, so the inevitable discussions can take place there instead of clogging up comments and the other forums. |

Another way of doing the whole voting thing is to do away with the rating of 1-10 and just have a vote button... you either choose to vote or not to vote... if a release is good... it should get more votes... does that make sense? Or is this just the beer talking! |

gosh, i've just had a look at randall's vote chart - i remember him having score above 9 barely two or three weeks ago. and now, you see yourself. i'm in favour of 'vote for plus one point' option, definitely :)

Wait! Stop what you're doing, I have an amazing idea!!! Listen carefully guys and gals, as your life on CSDb will change from now on!
Dudes, I know it may sound horrible, radical, horroristic, monstrous, outrageous, disgraceful, and perhaps some of your lifes' will become totally useless if Perff implements this, but...
How about dropping this whole state-of-the-fart chart-system out from this database?!?
Yeah I hear some of you crying, "heeey I still wanna share my opinion about how a certain release rules/suck but I can't vote up or down, left or right!!"
Yo look, here's the deal: comment the release, we'll know what you're thinking! So easy, Jesus happy. |

I had a similar idea some time ago, to just have people rate something Good, Excellent or Magnificent (which basically means you can only vote 8, 9 or 10). If you don't like something enough to give it one of these scores, you don't vote at all. I even did an article about it, which was discussed here: csdb gem top 40
As for completely dropping the possibility to vote in favor of comments only: nah. There are plenty of other options to try out before doing something so dramatical and drastic. |

Agreed. We're discussing this topic with ourselves anyway. :D |

There are other formulas you can use besides a simple average - that take into account idiots by filtering etc. I think IMDB use something like that.
