LOAD "BASIC",8?

When doing a LOAD "basic",8 where basic is a prg-file with basic-content, what does the BASIC and KERNEL really do?

I try to inject such a file into memory myself in some emulator stuff I'm testing. I checked the KERNEL-load at $E168 ([perform] load, http://unusedino.de/ec64/technical/aay/c64/rome168.htm) and it looks like it's just doing a simple $ffd5-load and store the end-adress at $2d/$2e then calls $a52a (insert basic text). I do the same and I can see the listing properly when doing LIST, but when I do RUN i get "SYNTAX ERROR" directly. Very weird.

Any ideas?

watch out JackAsser: haven't you heard about the new cracking rules?
you started a topic on the forum about a basic program, which you failed to load properly. that makes at least -1000 points and 7 yrs sceneban!

You are in the wrong place then. No scene here, csdb is just a database, nothing more nothing less. SQL drop table - and we are all gone!

You just have to realise that it can be BOTH a database and a release site. If you fuck up your upload that fuck up is permanent. The reason is simple, somebody did download that file you just uploaded and the checksum should match an entry on this database. When you bugfix you simply create a new entry. If you need a "front page" for your release then host your own page somewhere and use the webpage-field on the releases. Also, when obsoleting an old release add a comment or something. :D It's totally fine. When it comes to crackers and the cracking scene and first releases etc I'm quite puzzled. What's the fun chasing first releases nowadays? I guess they find some purpose that I do not understand... What ever make them happy. :D

well, some people go fishing to have fun, some do practice yoga, some more collect stamps, etc.
so even if I feel as puzzled as you I guess it's alright to see people in this world who nowadays have their fun to use this site as source for "originals", introlink and re-release those small games made by sceners for the scene.
No problem for me with that practice, but that practice just needs a new name coz that's not "cracking" at all, sorry. Those are not "cracks", those are not "1st-releases". IMHO it's like you use a demo-maker and you call yourself a coder.
the name of my group contains the word "cracking" and we really know its meaning (I'm not talking about myself as I'm a bigmouth pseudo-lamer, but some group mates of mine did the cracking business seriously!), this is why we don't introlink. if perhaps you notice we did that too once in the past then it was done by mistake, it was lame, we stopped.

that was pretty much the reason for us to stop....almost 20 years ago :)

except a few "recent" releases in the A4 coop, f4cg also stopped cracking on c64 20 yrs ago. which is way too late I think, because cracking was cool/funny/reasonable/whatever from middle 80s till very early 90s. then game companies left for faster machines and bigger profits; consumers left even before for amiga/atari-st/snes/etc... ok, no need to tell you a story we all know :)
but today is not exactly the same as 20 yrs ago. 20 yrs ago you still could find some new "commercial" games even if not from the big names, while today, as said, it's all sceners coding games for the scene. which is fantastic! we could feed ourselves forever and let c64 never die!
but touching those games and pretending to call them "cracks" doesn't make much sense to me.
