Commodore is back in Germany
well sort of...well i guess the company "Comp GmbH " got the licence to use the brand name of Commodore , and through the licence they are about to release new C64C cases and a lot of more. guess the same computer but only a new case ? or ?!

Yeah, $10k/year or $5k/year + $1 per unit. You can always put a DVI connector on the device to avoid the fee, and have vendors ship an HDMI adapter with it. |

Don't get me wrong, I think it's good that Jens got the license to use the brand name officially. I treasure my Reloaded. I'm just putting some questions marks, and don't think the wider audience is interested in the brand name.
One question would be, what IS the Commodore brand? Apple produced Apples in the past, PCs, like the Apple II. Nowadays they produce hardware that has nothing of the original hardware. People don't care, they don't even know the Apple II. And that's okay.
Now, a Commodore computer, 8-bit, or 16-bit like the Amiga, who would want to own one of those, even if you can hook it up to your HDTV, have it on WIFI and load stuff from a 2 TB HD? I'm talking about the mainstream here, not us geeks.
64KRAM is not going to cut it for the mainstream that wishes to play Pokemon GO! on their Androids, or iPhones.
As for consoles, no authentic C64 or Amiga, upgraded to the modern age, is going to be instabuy for the mainstream, right? |

For us geeks I can only say YES! Rebirthing a modern mainstream brand is one thing - catering to a niche retro market is something else and for the latter this is a good thing I believe. |

For the general public, no, this is not something I expect people to be interested in. But there's a fairly large group of nostalgic people in their 30s and 40s that remember the C64, outside of the core of sceners and retro enthusiasts. Being able to use the Commodore brand makes it much easier to break through and reach people outside the bubble. |

Mouse, you are right, but nostalgy beats rationalism. Esp if official c= name is on a product that helps you relive the past. c64 reloaded, chameleon or whatever. |
