Bob Yannes doesnt give a shit

read this:

http://stud1.tuwien.ac.at/~e9426444/yannes.html

...

now lets read between the lines :

Are you aware of the existence of programs like SIDPLAY, PlaySID,... which emulate the SID chip up to the smallest click ?

I only recently became aware of them (through your website).

Did you believe this was possible to do with your chip?

Since I haven't heard them I'm not sure what we are talking about, however

So, he doesnt even gave a shit to listen to 1 or 2 tunes... sad.

Does it in any way matter what attitude Bob Yannes has toward the SID? I fail to see the controversy here.

Well, if you read ON THE EDGE by Brian Bagnall, the original design included a multiplex oscillator that would have given SID up to 32 voices...

Holy shit, 32 voices need a lot of rastertime...

Nah, I consider music with more than three channels unnatural and evil anyway. ;)

I wished for one extra channel sometimes, but not more. :-)

Of course I did not mean a digi channel. :-) I was referring to a normal voice.

Mmm, 32 unmodulated voices playing patriotic NTSC-scene music, maybe then there'd have been enough rastertime ;)

(though note fetch would still have to be cleverly split on successive frames, otherwise it could easily gulp half frame or more when each channel starts new note...)

Not that hard actually.

Just consider that VTR/Music Ass. player eats around 12-16 rasterlines per frame (and it fetches notes each frame, AFAIR), and for 32 channels, you would roughly need 130-170 rasterlines. Sure not much rastertime left for your next killer demo, but well... :-)

Same probably goes for John Player, but I don't know that one's workings.

And for JCH 20.g4, uhh, *that* would take lots of rastertime, if you use it as it is. :-)
