Bitmap Editor

I've been using the old thrustworthy fli/bitmap-editor from Dolphins a long time now, but I know there's an editor out there that doesn't fuck up the colours when changing the third colour. Also, the possibility to have different background colours for the chars.

Does anyone know the name of this editor (or one similar) and perhaps even knows where I can find it...

What about Crests Fli-profi designer, which lets you use the three leftmost chars?

What about X-fli? :)

I'm mainly looking for a bitmap editor.

Is your X-fli editor finished??

Well, the version released with Digital Magic is surely finished, but XL-fli, that I'm using in Phases, was done in an editor that is nothing but beta and probably never will be more than that.

And you don't know what's right under your nose, Dane? :-)

What he seems to mean is the classic "Bitmapeditor/TWI" coded by Tango in 1993, modded by you to play music and called "Bitmapeditor/3AD". I have some strange feeling that Taos bitmapeditor (also based on the Dolphins Ed.) have the same features, although with some alternatives in the save-functions. That one is known as the "SUXX-Editor Spec."

For non interlaced FLI: FLI-Painter or Black Mail's FLI Graph v2.2 perhaps? Or there are several versions of FLI-Designer, also an excellent tool.
For raw multi-colour bitmaps I'd always prefer Amica Paint v1.8 where is an option of choosing the colour-clash mode (with "*" if I remember right).

Correct me please if I'm wrong, but as far as I am awared of, in FLI Profi (v1.0), one could paint ONLY on the first three vertical charlines. Or there is a new or another version?

Hey Dane, and what about updating the X-FLI editor for supporting a joystick? I mean, come on, we're not all nuts like you and can pixel with the cursor-keys _only_... :)
Khm. What's the deal with that weird idea anyway?...
I ruined something like 2 hours of my life by creating something I couldn't even call reasonable, shifting those damn cursor keys go up and left, and then I realised there's no way I can continue with pixelling without going all crazy (though I was studying dactilography in the secondary :).
Please, my Quickshot needs some heavy XFLI training :)

Twoflower, perhaps that's it.
You don't happen to know where to find it?

Oxidy - give me a mail and I'll send you a disk with different editors that I use, ok?

Jailbird - Well, if you're seriously considering giving X-fli a try, I'll consider modifying it for you. I can't really stand the joystick any longer myself, and do most of the pixeling in my emu with a userfriendly PC keyboard that doesn't have f**ked up keys, hence cursor controls.

Dane - Thanks!!
I'm not sure if you mean a disk by snail-mail or a D64 by e-mail. My e-mail is: info[at]SPAMSUX.oxidy.com (I think you know what to remove to make it work).
In case you meant snail-mail let me know.

Another thing, I really don't get it how you can draw with the keyboard. Ok, I've seen the results so obviously you can ;), but how can it possibly me more effective than a well oiled TAC-2??

Drawing with the keyboard rules...I've been using the keyboard for 11 years now, and would never go back to pixling with a joystick.

I reccomend Zoomatic (Zoomatic) for pixling normal multicolour bitmap pics. It even supports joystick if you really don't like using the keyboard.
It doesn't have fancy features like line drawing, circles, boxes etc. but it's fast, has 2 different zoom modes, loads and saves 4 different formats and has some other nice features built in too. If for some reason it should happen to crash, sys2880 will restart the program from basic.

There are also two different FLI versions of zoomatic, TRImatic by JFK/Triad and FLImatic by Olav "Omega Supreme" Mørkrid of Panoramic designs.

Dane - Thanks for the many editors. And don't worry, I won't spread any of the beta versions. I'll check them out more thoroughly this weekend.

I'm thinking of drawing a bitmap which will cover two screens. Does anyone know of an editor where you can edit the joints between the images. I can use Cenimate which can handle up to 4 concurrent images, but if I want to pixel the joint I'd have to change picture all the time. It would also be great if one could scroll between pictures in the preview mode or at least view the joint in preview mode. I guess I can code the editor myself and get everything like I want it, but if there's one out there that covers my needs I don't have to. (Lazy by nature.. ;)
