Gamelamers about the demoscene
I just had to share this with you =)
From http://www.protocol42.com/ :
"
What's the news? Well, first off, I'd like to welcome Legalize as a co-conspirator of the Annual September Protocol 42 LAN party! Who is Legalize? He's just this guy, ya know? (some of you will get that)
Legalize runs an event called a "Demoscene", and I'm sure most all of you gamers have used and keygen or some sort of exe patching tool that had a cool little gui and some built in music.
Well, that's a "demo" in this respect. People involved in the demo scene have competitions to make an entire 3D playable game with multiple levels and interaction under certain critieria, for example, the size limit would be 96 KB. There are a large number of these sorts of "demos" available, (here's one... http://www.theprodukkt.com/kkrieger.html ). So in a nut shell, that is what the demoscene is about, pushing the limits of music, programming and graphics! Find out more about Pilgrimage here --> http://pilgrimage.scene.org/2006/index.html

Cool. Only if making demos that way were real. I don't consider it a real demo myself if it's not capable of going full screen.
Also. Wanderer is CANADIAN, so don't pity America.
I honestly don't see why everyone give's Wanderer slack, but it's not my place to get involved, so ignore that. |

NTSC fixes
Trainers
A few late 80's cracks
Three games
A hundred or so demos
About a dozen utilities
A few programs published in Compute's Gazette
Voted #1 programmer in the Mamba Magazine diskmag once
Yes I am indeed a coder. However I think in terms of parallel, meaning we're all here for the same reason. I don't think in terms of having to be better than anyone else :) In fact I don't think in my 20 year time-lapse on the C64 I have ever put down someone else's work who did not insult mine first. And yet there seems to be a lot of that lately from a few Euros.
There are always going be coders better than me and I will always be better than other coders. Anyone who knows me from the 1980's knows I have never been egotistical. I have always helped out other coders. That has never changed.
Some people build you up, others tear you down. It's nothing new and at the end of the day when you put your head on the pillow to sleep, they are still nothing more than opinions. We all have them, but it doesn't mean they're true :) |

Wanderer was _never_ considered "top 10" in the NTSC demo scene when he was active.
Save your pity for people that care... damn German.

I may not have gone through 75 handles or been in 200 groups but according to a couple of voting polls I was not only in the top 10 but at the top position for a few months.
While I wrote to the magazine that I felt I was not #1, I do feel I was (off and on according to others in the scene leaving and entering), within the top 10 and at other times below it. It cannot be a 'blanket' statement as the scene is ever-evolving and people transition.
Your claim of my not being in the top 10 is a mere opinion. My claim to be #1 was proof as having been given by all that voted in the two month time.
Thank you come again. :)
Re-edit: I'm not going to debate being in the top 10, etc. I do what I do, and I do so by my own rules. |
