Unknown Hardware
Hi, my mate maestro sent me some hardware today and looking at it it is a simple plug through connector for the User i/o port, its in a plastic box thats redish wood effect, has the words "dirk klaus schvl" on the top and has a red reset switch mounted on the side that is connected to the 'No.2' the 'A connections', it also has the word "lindy" printed on the board inside the cartridge.
Anyone know anything about it, or translate what it says on it??? |

I tried to translate using Altavista's BABEL FISH and couldn't find any translations at all. Are you sure the name is correct? Maybe "dirk klaus schulz"? Perhaps you can take a picture of the board itself (both sides if the board is double printed)?

More importantly, what are the components in it?

Yes it just plugs into the user i/o post and has a slot on the back of it to plug another cartridge in to it, it all it has is a reset button wired to it.
I was just wondering why make just a reset cartridge and no software? and why use the i/o port? and not the usual cartridge port, and whats the point of being able to plug something else into it? and if anyone knows what it says on it : "dirk klaus schvl" |

Because that lets you use a cartridge that doesn't have a reset button? Because the passthrough lets you connect a printer or rs-232 interface? Not a big mystery or anything. |

"Lindy" translates into nothing because it´s no word. It´s the name of the company which produced it. Lindy is wellknown in germany for producing all types of adaptors and gender-changers, usb stuff and ps/2 adaptors. All types of cabling and plugs are made by Lindy.
Do you have a Photo of the thing? |

If it only contains a reset button, i would also say it's just a passthru with reset. Check if the reset switch is connected to pins 1 (GND) and 3 (RESET) of the user port. If so - fine. This thing lets your expansion port free for other stuff, maybe Simons Basic or such stuff. I heard, there really were cartridges other than freezers with reset buttons and so Lindy created this "standalone reset button cartridge" for the user port.
Would also fit into the products of Lindy, they made stuff for nearly everything, sometimes more useful, sometimes less (seen from the perspective of a guy who is able to use a soldering iron :) |

And: There was a time before multifunction cartridges. The first freezer cartridges which appeared were just that: Freezer cartridges! No fastloader, no basic extensions etc. If you wanted a fastloader, you plugged the fastload cartridge in, if you wanted basic extensions you plugged the basic extension cart in etc etc. Most of these carts didn't have a reset button. It was common that people soldered their own reset button to the userport. That's when some companys started to sell such userport reset cartridges to people who didn't want to mess up their C64. |
