Double entries
I just went through a lot of my .d64-files and I found a lot of interesting stuff (mostly cracks) that I didn't see in here. But soon I found out that some of the entries seems to be double: Sure the same groups might have cracked the same game twice but three times?!
I'm not blaming anyone for this, but it just shows that you have to be careful not to add releases that's already here. Like I found a Triad crack (Ball Fever) that didn't seem to be in the database, so I did a search for "ball fever" and looked through Triad's releases, and didn't find it, so I'll add it soon. Sure it's getting harder if you have tons of stuff to upload and the problem is of course if people then quit uploading... that's not what I want! What I'll do is to keep an eye at the releases of Heartbeat and TCD (the two groups that I maintain).
Another thing: Strange to see groups like Vagabonds, who released a lot back in the 90's but where there hasn't been many releases uploaded. Erhm.. guess I better see if there's something hidden in my collection.
Regards from Freddie

actually releasing two or three or even more versions wasnt THAT uncommon.... one to get the firstrelease, another with ntsc fix (possibly beeing another firsty), then a mailversion with more trainers...and maybe the same stuff from another cracker of the same group =) i know it happened for us atleast =) |

Please - do not focus on uploading cracks here. Especially not Triad cracks. Focus on the demos, the mags and the small releases which might not be available elsewhere. If you want to upload cracks, you're welcome - but I believe that it would benefit more from being uploaded to Digital Dungeon. I know i'm not the only person around which believes that there are better fora for cracks. |

Well on TDD I list only 1 version of a crack, so in that case upload them to gangsta paradize
or just give your cracks to Mason and then they will be available from our web-bbs Spankers Heaven.

The cracks would still benefit from being sorted out in another way, with another structure and visually separated from the other releases. More flags need to be available like first release, amount of trainers and so on - could be done in the same way of sub-sorting as f.ex FLI/HiRes and so on. Please concider this, Perff. |

same here, we had several double mail-scene releases in the past (to my big frustration sometimes) this was mainly caused due to crackers location throughout Europe and was even worse during co-op times.
Ill never forget 1 specific game though.. Nibbly92.. sigh, the original of this amusing little game was so well spread apparently that we released it 5 times, none of the colleagues realizing we already had a version out there.
Also being a megaswapper and at times leader, I would double check on our versions vs. the opponents. If someone in the group had done a terrible version (for instance terrible file size) I would intentionally spend extra time making a proper quality version and then tend sorting out the responsible person at a later stage. In a sick way I sometimes even miss those nights of absolutely no sleep and bad school marks ;)

Got a little crazy idea here - can't remember if someone sugested something similar before.
We could add a legal/illegal viewing mode to CSDb. You can either view CSDb from the perspective of the legal scene (demos etc.) and the illegal scene (cracks) or both (like today)
Which mode is selected will be displayed in the little top-bar where is says "You are logged in as ..." or similar place, and you can toggle the view mode from here as well.
When in the legal mode, you will never see any cracks, or links to cracks or get search results to cracks, and the other way around, when in illegal mode you will ONLY get cracks.
I guess this idea need some finetuning, but could this work?
