is it possible???

is it possible once a floppy disk has been formatted that you can get the disk back with what was on before you formatted???

if you used 'fast format' only its possible. fast format only kills the directory, and the sector allocation table (bam). as the sectors on the disks are chained (each sector has a pointer to the one that should be loaded next) you can reverse engineer those chains to files. a minimum file limit is always used otherwise u can end up with 664 1 block files ;)

Even if you do whats known as a 'zero level' format, you can still get the data back to an extent (not by software though) but specialist forensic hardware.

search for unformat. I cant give advice for which to use, as I used this kinda stuff only once or twice.

btw, u better make a _full_disk_side_copy of that disk before starting to rescue it.

how have you formatted the disk _exactly_ ?

i didnt format the disk!!! i bought them off ebay!!! they where used disks which did have stuff on them but not now!! just thought id see if i could unformat them to see what was on them before they where formatted

They may have formatted the disks via multiple passes. If that is the case, then no, even with the required hardware, no joy. Although they may not have the time to full multiple format each disk. Disks. Aaarrrgh, I would never touch one again
