Demo Collector Crew

Anyone interested in starting a Crew that collects demos ?
I know some individuals with a good demo collection (Zyron, Jack Alien, Acidchild, Graham, Iopop, me, ...)
It's impossible for me (and for all other demo-collecting-individuals) to do it all by ourselfs.
I suggest that we use CSDB the centralise all info (releases, dates, additional info,...) and upload the stuff so that everyone can take benefit from it.
We can make a mailinglist to discuss the releases and the info we found before it is uploaded to CSDB.
If you are (seriously!) interested and/or have suggestions then mail me. If there's not enough interest I will ofcourse go on by myself for myself :/

As for myself I already started using CSDb to store all info. About 1.5 year ago I wanted to start my own site. sweden.c64scene.org or sthm. Atleast I owe quite a lot to norway.c64scene.org for inspiration. But since then CSDb have grown bigger and it would be rather pointless starting yet another site dealing with the same kind of information. And with the new upload ability and the admins that listens to their users, I go for CSDb.

What I would like to see is if we could come into some consensus when it comes to how to store releases. As of today I often see myself spending time on transfering .t64 files into .d64 and similar stuff.

As for storing, uploading etc.:
I'd appreciate if the demo collector gurus would put their stuff to c64.ch as well, because I really like this site.

I want to use CSDB aswell. I think single files should be in .T64 and multipart demos just stay on .D64.

What I wanted to achieve is that a bunch of people work on one selected group and try to find as much info/releases as possible, share and verify the info and then upload the stuff to CSDB. Then work on another group and so on. If more people work together we can all benefit from it...

just my five pennies...

As long as no demos are using the .prg format I am satisfied. Iopop, on the other hand, is a die-hard .d64 fanatic. Mostly because of the handling of .t64's in VICE and that it might make the transferring process to a real C-64 a bit harder?

I also dislike T64 images, mostly because there are plenty of D64 viewers which can't display the content of T64 files (well, dunno if ANY actually can?). Also transfering is easier with D64's.

d64 should be the standard as it is the easiest thing for all to handle.

I always hate getting files in other shitty formats e.g. t64 as you always have to convert them into something "useful".

Adding stuff to csdb is a good idea, I am collecting demos, too and I already put some stuff in here too. So put my name down if it come to some kind of collector crew :-D

Yup, T64 is pretty pointless these days. On the other hand I see it's a waste of space to put single files on a D64. In cases like these I would go for plain PRG.

also worth thinking is the point of putting smaller demos/intros/pictures/runnable musics and such to one (or several if need be) .d64(s) so there wouldn't be so much wasted space on one diskside.. especially if one is thinking of transferring them back to real media and use on a real machine..

I'm echoing here the same point steppe mentioned earlier, but when using prg's, you lose the original filename.. and possibly some great dir-graphics which might have been on the original spread version.. or some notefiles and such..

hmh.. i'm rambling again.. hopefully even someone made head or tail from this mess of letters..

Storing things as .prg should not be allowed at all. Don't think you can find any bigger historical rape than that..

When it comes to c/g in the dirs I usually save them if they are relevant for the release.

I also proclaim the use of 1 d64 / demo. You get easier visability over what you have and can faster find the correct demo via a normal file browser.

If you want to save space by having many demos(releases) on the same d64 you could aswell save the transfered disk and relate the release to that specific disk via some database.

For me the most important thing is the release not what kind of warez that got spread during the same time. Though, that is also interesting but from another angle...
