Downvoting, for what reasons?

Seems I got two inverse mega fans. They gave me a set of 1 point votes.

I was a bit interested in finding out who that was, since I've never heard of them or seen any posts from either of them on CSDb.

The votes in question are registered to Auslaender and abracadabra, which is perfectly ok, if they think I suck...

At first I just clicked the abracadabra link and some pretty empty profile with a picture of a magician showed (refered to a guy call Mira, too!). I thought, hmm, strange.. Maybe someone who'd like to conceal himself or something... Didn't think much of it to be honest.

I wasn't untill another one showed. Auslaender!. Strange handle, but then again, we're strange people most of us.. I wonder who that is!.. No profile, when doing a profile search.. Though I'd search the forum for posts, and .. bang... All my indifferent discussions with Nata showed, only Nata showing as Auslaender!.. Sigh!.. Why?.. For what use?.. I don't get it.. He can vote me all the way to the bottom of the list for all I care, but I'm really disappointed.. I hope someone else hacked his profile or something, because that would mean that I didn't misjudge Nata in the past.

Downvoting is ok, as far as wdr is concerned. And as long as you have the guts to stand up for your votes by making them public.
Groepaz, why don't you make your votes public? What keeps you from stepping out of anonymity?

and what would that change? except i would need to defend myself all the time i "downvote" someone? (i already had ppl argueing with me about my votes ALTHOUGH they are anonymous, go figure)

why dont people tell everyone in public what they voted in an election?

oh well. i'm rarely voting anyway, who gives a damn. as graham pointed out, the whole voting thing is pointless as it is.

That's a duck and cover attitude, but you're free to have that.
I have no problem telling people what I voted in the last election, by the way. I'm just as straight in real life as I am here. People should always stand up for what they think is right and not hide their opinions because that might cause effort or trouble in some way, even if it's just the inconvenience of having to explain things. But we're drifting into philosophical grounds now...

i have zero problem with standing up for what i think, just do some research. i have more than once stated a certain not so popular opinion loudly and discussed it in public. i can take that, really.

the whole point is that everyone should be free to choose whom to tell what. i just choosed to defend exactly that - it doesnt mean that i wouldnt tell someone what or for whom i voted at all.

and as for "stand up for what they think"; csdb is full of strange hypocrite "rules" in that regard. (i'm still waiting for a list of the so called "trusted" users - i wonder how i can trust them when i dont even know who they are)

Allright Groepaz, I didn't want to play Spanish Inquisition on you. I was just interested what keeps you from making your votes public.

we just need to wait. Downvoters will be treated as potential terrorists and thus all be collected in the anti-terror-files. So we just cross-reference with that one then. The remaing votes yield more than just top10. Those who downvote are suspects and those who are downvoted by genuine (just had to use that word) respected voters more so.
I can totally see groepaz point as one of principle. The only way that would work (and still suck) might be to have an undisclosed voting-period for each release for a certain time. So noone sees the results. Even after his/her own vote. And after that time (maybe 30 days?) the vote is public and no further votes are accepted. Hail democracy.
