wow, ppl are all serious and stuff here ;)
ok... I work as a system administrator for unix-systems @ Volvo... and no, I don't know SHIT about cars and I don't care ;)
been pretty much working with computers for as long as I can remember... some of the diffrent systems I've been working on are:
OS/390 (z-os today, IBM Mainframes... love 'em)
AS/400 (i-series today, IBM midrange.. called "micro computers"... don't ask me why 'coz they are freaking HUGE)
SUN (Solaris, Jurassic Sparc)
AIX (IBM unix... right now I have about 70 servers in 6 Regatta-shells and 12 more on the way in shiny new 595-stylee :D )
I have my own office far away from all thouse annoying fucks, what you call them... USERS... and they can only reach me by mail as my phone# is unlisted :D
I have also worked some on *bluerk* winblows, but only for like 2-3 months... hated every moment of it as I actually had to talk to real ppl then...

Aww well Im a "System engineer" (atleast thats what the business card says).
Ive been working in the Citrix / Terminalserver field for the past 4 years. Before that i was doing webdevelopment for various companies and before that i was working for UPS loading / unloading trucks in the nightshift (damn hard work) and some other smaller jobs not worth mentioning.

Nice to read this,
I've been always working with computers, starting out
as an all round system administrator, later I moved away
from that, and concetrated only on unix/linux full time.
IBM AIX, Sun Solaris, Debian, Redhat etc.
Currently working @ a big University in Switzerland, enough time to work on CSDB & The Digital Dungeon :)

Like most (?) people in our subculture, i started out with technical support (though my education is in history and archaeology), and after a few years dealing with idiots (=customers) for different companies (Xerox, Symantec etc) in different countries, I'm now a Hostmaster at a big webhost. Which basically means that I sit most of the day at the office talking rubbish with my colleagues and reading slashdot, taking care of domain/dns-problems about 2 out of 8 hours a day. Very relaxing, and I can't imagine anything better (since I'm such a lazy person).

To be honest, such a job would drive me mad. I need constant work pressure, or else the days just are too long :) Fortunately at my current job, there is no lack of pressure, no lack at all ;) |

I'd rather not say ;) It's not a porn site, but I'll give you a hint: they have very 'funny' commercials on the Dutch television. |
