Composers' real life
Hi, 8bitters
I'm always wondering what the C64 composers are doing in real life, of course not their private lives but musical.
For example, I know that Reyn Ouwehand is a live instrumental musician, I'm very proud of it, but dunno about a lot others whom I rarely see on CSDB.
e.g. I've managed several times to get reply from Jeroen Tel, Shogoon, and I saw them with guitars on some pictures..and I'm very curious if they are playing in band or compose on other platforms, etc.
I love Cosmic and its alternative bass and also wondering during listening if Stainless Steel is a funky-musician.
If you have news about them to share with us, or if you are a composer and want to tell about your activities, it's the topic I think.
This can help us by knowing where they got the influences/motivation from, how they could make these great compositions.
E.g. I'm mainly a bass player & singer, I have a pop-band, but my best dream is to play in a C64 remixer band, like "Press Play On Tape."
If you're interested in this topic, I'm excitedly waiting for replies.
READY.

In my real life I spend the day sorting müsli and dividing it into capitals. That's what started my interest in doing sid music. |

Me got nada to do with music now. I fiddle around with Cubase every now and then, but I don't understand jack shit of it. |

I use and advise SONAR ...even 4.0 is enough & faster
+ included TTS-1 synth and Sonitus FX-es are reasonable in quality.

or fl studio if you want something easy but then expect problems with midi. i'm satisfied with it anyway, it's enough for miracles :D ;) |

Yeh, I also like Fruity Loops and its arrangement & piano roll is very easy so composer won't be so tyred of select-copy-paste processes..but can simplify musical thinking..(I wonder how Mozart could cope with staff on paper or without paper in mind :)
But unfortunately I can't run FL (only SONAR) on my shortened (but fast) XP made with n-lite.
A similar arranger solution could be Ableton, I like its responsiveness - remembers me to C64 music editors' speed :)

judging from my very humble studio experience, ableton seems to be rather powerful and flexible, but that may be a matter of operators' skills and not the program itself. and 9th wonder uses fl, so it can't be all that bad indeed... ;)
i prefer pt7+ though because of its standarized user interface and overall friendliness. also, it uses dedicated hardware only, which is a good thing for sound quality. it shines the most in the recording area though, not composing.
(if i had a mac, i would try logic for sure, it looks and sounds _mighty_. but that is yet to come.) |

If you're feeling adventurous you might give Renoise a try. Poor me loves it. |

Orion Platinum is my favorite, hands down.

Thanks for tips. Both Sonar and Orion Platinum seems like nice programs. I might give them a try. Of course I should have a new PC as well, the one I use for this is way too slow.
Hmm... I'm starting to see a pattern here. It seems a lot easier to explain your own crapness by blaming the equipment rather than your own inadequacy :D |
