Separating Trackmos and oldschool demos
Hi. I just had this thought if it could be an idea to separate modern trackmos and oldschool "Press space for next part" demos into two different chartgenres? I think that would be more fair to both genres... |

Well Tch, you know quite well I'm not actually a scener, so I might mix up the right terms. But as it has been as of lately (if you look away from latest 2 days) most "Top Demos" has, with little exception, been trackmos. Yesterday and today has been one of those exception as can be seen on the list, with the almost bizarre situation that "Kalle kloakk" tops longtime leading "Royal Arte (wich also is a press space demo) and Deus Ex. I dont say its unfair that KK has the current score it has, afterall it is (imo) one of the best oldschool demos ever made. But is it necesarily better than RA/DE?
TDJ: CSDB already have different charts for Diskmag editors/musicians/graphicians etc, not just a "top scener", so I dont exactlty see your point? of course a demo is a demo, dont recall to have said otherwise, but CSDB sorts already (4k demo from other demos, a chart for them aswell could perhaps be something) Different charts may put focus back to other stuff that just trackmos... |

And continuing on the topic, shouldn't there be separate charts for "tech" demos and "art" demos? ;-)
No, seriously, I think the CSDb charts work fine the way they are. Not that they're that important anyway... |

There's something to say from seperating 4k demos from the rest, as they really stand out due to their limited size. But as far as I'm concerned everything else should be just a demo (I don't care too much for the fact that you can also select 'one file demo' as filetype).
I guess that the popularity of trackmos is due to the fact that most members of this board weren't active before those became in fashion. Also, believe this from somebody who *is* a scener, and who has been one since the 80's, demos *have* actually gotten better over the years ;) |

I can understand that the rankings don´t make much sense here.
And I also agree with TDJ that demos do get better over the years.
But for a database that is close to stepping over the 20.000 entries line, the criteria to choose from are a bit small.
It would be great to have an option like: "best demo till (1990)".
But I don´t think the problem lies with CSDb.
It´s basically that only a very small amount of people cast their votes.
There are over 3.000 accounts (some of which are fakes),but even the best demos have only a little over a 100 votes.
There simply is no sollution for this.
It´s like TV & elections.
Many people watch, some speak their mind. ;) |

I´d like to see demos ranked that have BLUE as the dominant colour!
Every artist has his/hers "Blue Period"! 8D
And most artists just started to make money with it - post mortem! 8D

For once I agree with TDJ.
If you check the charts, its a mixture of old and new demos. It doesnt make things more fair if you seperate them. |

That's almost such a brilliant idea like the separation of 'graphicians' and 'fullscreen graphicians' chart. If there will be an anonymous poll about it, count on me!
