Composers' real life

Hi, 8bitters

I'm always wondering what the C64 composers are doing in real life, of course not their private lives but musical.

For example, I know that Reyn Ouwehand is a live instrumental musician, I'm very proud of it, but dunno about a lot others whom I rarely see on CSDB.

e.g. I've managed several times to get reply from Jeroen Tel, Shogoon, and I saw them with guitars on some pictures..and I'm very curious if they are playing in band or compose on other platforms, etc.

I love Cosmic and its alternative bass and also wondering during listening if Stainless Steel is a funky-musician.

If you have news about them to share with us, or if you are a composer and want to tell about your activities, it's the topic I think.
This can help us by knowing where they got the influences/motivation from, how they could make these great compositions.

E.g. I'm mainly a bass player & singer, I have a pop-band, but my best dream is to play in a C64 remixer band, like "Press Play On Tape."

If you're interested in this topic, I'm excitedly waiting for replies.
READY.

I cannot stress enough, how much I looooove the name of that band :)

My crew is here: http://myspace.com/razorpoint
Right now we're releasing a 12" single, and a full CD album that will be out Jan 2010 - both on German label Drone Audio...

Great stuff :)

Haha, man, you owe me one. You will have to form a band called Necror :)

I've been wanting to play the drums from when I was 5 or something and remember pressing my ear against the audioset whenever Meat Loaf was on (my parents played that).

It wasn't until I was 14 when I bought my first drumkit. After that I have been playing on and off in bands ever since. i started off with heavy rock, underground stuff and composing music for those bands as well, or writing song text. Two years ago I quit the last band I was in, because I got a new job and had to move away. I still record drums for some people everynow and then and I have a collaboration with one of my best friends, he composes and I record the drums for his songs.

I've been playing various styles, heavy rock, punk, popular stuff, funk and some jazzy things.

On the c64 I developed my own style in the 90s.

Over the years various bands have influenced me, some are:

Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Dream Theater, The Cure, The Smiths, The Cult, The Police, John Scofield, Miles Davis, Midnight Oil, Kate Bush, Within Temptation, Iron Maiden, Yngwy Malmsteen, Simple Minds, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers and more.

My past: I studied Medical Biology and then started research for 4 years to earn my PhD thesis in Medical Physiology and Immunology. After that I worked as a post-doc for 4 years as a Genetic Epidemiologist. I finally quit my academic career because of bad pay and benefits and moved to the pharmaceutical industry where I now work as Medical Advisor.

I've always retained contact with the c64, and programmed stuff and still program stuff for the PC. With MultiEx Commander and the Game Research Forum as prime projects.

Never played any instrument very well. I tried to play, but never tried to learn. In real life I studied electronics and computer systems (-1994), then got teacher's degree from English and Informatics (1999).

Registered my business in 99 and programming webs since. The biggest thing I did (and am still doing since 2004, (and finally inhouse since february of this year)) is the best and biggest slovak hockey community at hockey news portal http://www.hokejportal.sk (with tight moderating as here ;-). It's not the most visited hockey site in Slovakia, but definitely the best one, not to speak about the associated sports souvenir e-shop (with own branded production) http://www.allforfan.com which is the best and biggest one in Slovakia. I'm also quite proud about one of the best accomodation catalogues in Slovakia with direct contact on visitors http://www.1-2-3-ubytovanie.sk.

Family. 1 lovely daughter 3 yrs and 4 months. Loving and supportive wife. 2 parrots, Eastern Rosella (Platycercus eximius, New Zaeland) and Agapornis (Agapornis personatus viola, Africa , http://www.avifaunafree.com/wallpapers/desk-agapornis.jpg) (both adopted (first one arrived trhough window, second one caught on stairs in our block of flats). 100m flat, car, pc computers, c64 computers, tv... blah blah blah.

Ok I must admit that it wasn't much about C64. So let's get back there... 11 forever parties in a row, 8 sid compos in a row plus 1 cover compo ;-). After this years forever I've unpacked my C64 again and restarted composing. It sits on the desk nearby. Except of doodling with one tune that should have been released at forever (but wasn't because of lack of time), I've started to do a kinda challenging cover tune of a soundtrack from a well known movie. We'll see what will come up of that. The ones who know what is it, told me that it's impossible to do right ;-). That's the best motivation ;-). The second cover compo? Well... maybe ;-).
