An ideal C64 game
What sort of C64 game would be your ideal game? It could be about anything you like, no matter how nice or horrible the game's supposed to be.
My ideal C64 game would be a horizontal scrolling blaster, based on R-Type with breathtaking graphics, powerful weaponry, smart bombs, quality sound and music, and run on a normal C64, rather than a SuperCPU (As I don't own one and not a keen fan on them) :) |

My ideal game would be a game like Maniac Mansion. I just love that kind of adventures. |

Hello.
I'd like to see a sequel to Bard's Tale. Yes, I know about Dragon Wars... This could have a pseudo-3d environment, i.e., first person perspective, but real-time based like Dungeon Master.
How about a real-time wargame simulation loosely cloned from the likes of WarCraft or Command & Conquer?
Enjoy.

I must agree with Eyeth here. I'd really like to see a new pseudo 3D rpg, although one with visible and moving monsters - something more in the sense of Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder or the version of Towers that was released on the GBC. In my opinion, everything possible to make on that machine would be more or less possible to do for the C-64 aswell, although in an extended or crippled way.
Speaking of realtime strategy, like f.ex Warcraft - there is a brilliant little game called "Warlocked" on the GBC, with great gfx and amazing gameplay. And on top of it all - the music is made by Jeroen Tel. :-) There should be possible to make an almost 100% conversion of this.
All in all, I believe that the views of making C-64 games are way too limited in these days. There have never ever existed such great tools and artists as there exists now, and using the entire memory thanks to x-asms and emus makes things far more easy. Time to raise the rib, Richard? :-) |

Well someone's got to say it... if you want to see a game, there's nothing stopping you from coding it yourself. As Twoflower says, the development tools are great these days, if people want a C&C or Warcraft clone, a sequel to Test Drive 2 or Delta or whatever they just have to sit down and get on with it. =-) |

Talking about strategy game, I'd love to see another Defender of the Crown. With even better gameplay it already has now. Superb graphics, for the variation a bit less static, some Airborne Ranger kind of battle levels with it... walking , ambushes... crossbow shooting ;]

I would love DotC. It's one of the few games where you load a large portion of a disk side then need to flip it beofre playing :) |

Hello.
Evidently if Commodore Scene is to be believed, they are offering up to 400 UKP to someone who can code a Doom clone for a SuperCPU 64 setup.
Check out the news blurb at c64.sk. So, how about it? Earn fame and riches! Ok, mostly fame, for having coded a 3-D blaster game for a SuperCPU 64 setup. :)
Enjoy.

Doom clone for c64 this is sick imho... :)
with SCPU it will be too fast if you use 4x4, and too slow if you try it in 160x200 or fli or whatever :)
but back to the topic, my dream is to have cannon fodder on c64 :) now this one could be done with a SCPU :) |

Coding on a SCPU setup defeats the whole objective, Also how many users have a SuperCPU attached on their C64? |

For Doom-SCPU (or any SCPU production, as there's so few of them), it's sort of hard to gauge the level of achievement, and therefore the level of honor. |

A detective game would be cool... but skills in coding and painting isnt enough then.... you need a good story..
Still there has been no better detective game than "The detective game" rom 1986 by Argus Press Software on ANY platform. |

shouldn't be that hard to accomplish.. I once made about 50% of the engine needed for it.. only the loading times for all the screens!!! aargh! |

A nice scumm based adventure with fli graphic. REU and CMD support only on demand. A game for all, imo .

Hmm.. are you sure there would be enough rastertime for the scumm-engine to be playable after spending most of the time in the FLI display? |

Ok, using multicolor may be the better way. Displaying some fullscreen fli (and I'm really tired to see only mc ;)) is my second opinion. |

SCUMM is short for "Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion". It means the typical Lucas Arts control system, like : push, pull, give, open and so on.
An easy to use "point and click adventure engine".

Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion. This is the engine of graphical Lucasfilm adventures, also used in Monkey Island. |

While reading reports on doings of some of my Internet pals at Revision 2015, I got a thought that it would be funny if "How to Be a Complete Bastard" would be remade as a demoparty edition.
In the original game you get "bastard points" by doing things like pouring yoghurt on ladies, throwing spiders on people and doing a ghost impression by using sheets. When considering what sort of tricks player could do in a demoparty edition, we can recall what some Amiga sceners did at Finnish demoparties during the first half of 1990s: smuggling booze to the party place, vomiting all over the party place, making security men mad in a way or another, drawing graffiti featuring group's logo to the wall of party hall and nearby buildings, getting arrested by policemen who have been called to the party place, stealing party's data disk (containing personal data of attendants) from organizers, smashing Amigas into pieces, manipulating voting system by making additional voting tickets, copying entry tickets and selling them to passing-by lamers, beating members of rival groups to hospital, mooning to everybody, giving a shit eating performance at a front door, deliberately kicking other players at soccer compo, wiping one's butt to a flag of a rival group, stealing components from other people's PCs, giving a gay performance in a party hall, running naked around a party place, peeing on party people from platforms above, organizing an unofficial drinking compo, putting a shit surprise in somebody's sleeping bag, putting used toilet paper in somebody's briefcase, igniting an explosion during PC demo compo etc. etc.
To make game more fun, it could happen in Germany so that the player could try to speak with everybody by using his terrible German skills. Also there could be a background story taken from the real life: A Swedish scener has promised to pay all the expenses of a Finnish scener [player] so that he could have a drinking company at a German demoparty. Now the player has some pressures to prove that he's such a party animal that he promised to be. |
