Mixing two game genres into one
I've been working on a C64/Emulator friendly game, which is still under production called 'Star Blazers'. The game idea is where you have two space ships, you're in an arena and you got to blast the moving orb. The orb will bounce around the screen. It it hits the opponent's goal, you score points and vice versa. The players have to shoot the orb in order to make the orb head for their opponent's goal. The player ships wont be able to move the orb. I mixed two game genres into one. These are 'Pong' and a shoot 'em up. Clever eh? Do look forward to the full game ;) |

Mhmm.. kind of offtopic, but I've never understood what's the big deal about this "emulator-friendliness" :) If you simply mean "not using emufuxx0r" then it's OK but I hope it's not about dumbing down features/circumventing emu bugs, for inferior emulators' (C64S/PC64) sake |

S'funny, i had a game design like that knocking about - Pong merged with one of those two player shooters. Difference was, the ships hit the ball and the players could score by either knocking the ball off the other player's side of the screen or shooting their opponent.

I wont be lame and use EmuFuxx0r. That's what I meant be Emu-friendly. |

This made quite a challenge for me, as I never programmed a PONG game before. Unbelievibly this game idea is working perfectly ;) |

i think i got half a game going, i didn't take an awful lot of care over the Pong routines (the "ball" always travelled at a 45% angle to make life easier for me *and* the potential player) but it only took a few hours to get everything in, moving and colliding.
i had a variation for single player mode, maybe i should scratch around and make up a full game from that... |
