Generate teletext signal with C64?
Would it be possible to generate a teletext signal alongside the audio and video in the RF-output of the C64? |

From my research, I think you will need a C128 because you will need hires pixels in full width (sideborder) in the upper border. You might get away with a c64 if the TV recognizes a videotext-line just by its pattern even if outside its expected rasterline. Depends on a lot of other things, too. Lightgrey might not perfectly match the specified intensity and one will need to do some bit-stuffing as the pixel-clocks don't match. So, you might get it to work on some TVs, not necessarily all. |

There was an add-on that allowed you to decode Teletext signals, and that had an editor to create Teletext-style pages... but not generate the actual signals. |

@Ninja: Would it be easier with the Amiga? I guess I don't understand how to make graphics 'outside the screen'. :) I'm basically looking for an easy way to mix teletext & video, that doesn't involve a 5000 euro teletext inserter.
(sorry, guess it went OT) |

I don't know much about gfx-capabilities of the Amiga. I'd suspect if it could easily do it, it would have been done already. |

well if you think a c128 could do it with open borders then an amiga could do it twice as easily. |

At least Dweezil/Complex did it on Amiga back in 1999 but the production it was supposed to be in was never released.

If the Amiga can do it, then inserting it into another video signal should just be a matter of syncing and switching the amiga video signal in at the right lines. Doable with some genlock hardware? |

@Lemming: Apparently he never got it to work as well as he wanted to. I asked him. You know of any other teletext-hackers? :) |

There was a genlock interface for the c64 allowing you to add text (and some effects?) to a video(signal).
The company which created it was Scanntronik from germany I think.
Maybe something alike will work similar for you?

Yeah, the genlock could put nice PETSCII on top of the video. I got one but never tried it... |

in the small town I grew up the local town tv used c64's for years for subtitling with a genloc. they were also used to broadcast "no signal" pictures, and display "tv news" texts. |

Ninja: You could put anything, no? Afair there is a definition or so as for which c64 color needs to be background to be transparent for the video signal. Anything else should get displayed so not just petscii.
