New music programming language contest
https://bunsen.itch.io/simonsaystouchme-ai-is-active-atari-2600..
This is a music programming language contest on Index Cards to teach how Trackers work through gamification.
The article explains the BPM beats per minute programming shown on the Card with the chiptune.
dev kit:
Simon Says
has a music IDE with a Trace to edit the chiptunes in the game and step through patterns for the Tracker to hear changes as you model them.
The game and music IDE run on the Atari 2600 or Commodore 64 using a VM like Chip-8 that abstracts the hardware.
There are three types of Tracker script supported. As programming on the card to set the BPM, control codes to bind chiptunes to in-game events and BASIC intrinsic commands shown in the program listing.
The program listing illustrates how it works and there is a link to download the new release of the BASIC with more info.
The screenshots are for the Atari 2600 but the program may be compiled for the Commodore 64 with full color support and music IDE for the SID.
Hope some Commodore programmers will try it out. To try the pre-release of the C64 version you can PM me for the prg or compile the program listing with the new SuperCharger BASIC download for the C64 linked in the article.
