Event id #2396 : Je suis #Drax music compo
Welcome all dear copycats! It's our second meeting ;) This time only 3 weeks for entries - should be enough.
Compo's premise is as simple as that:
You have to create a tune which imitates Drax's trademark sounds and ideas. Seems simple but it's not :D
First rule is - Drax himself cannot participate! Naturally, he can vote for all contestants.
Second rule is - contestants cannot use any worktunes by Drax, neither from his example tunes nor from any other source - make it from scratch, fuckers! :D
Last rule is - it's by no means a remix compo. Composers have to at most recreate typical harmonies, sounds and flavours but in brand new composition on their own.
If you need to analyze his tunes bit by bit with aid of SidDump and similar tunes - your call but doing it by ear is far more creative ;)
Apart from that all composers have total freedom regarding entries' number, playtime, speed, editor, executability etc. - all in all it shall be judged by the people and results will be based on Drax's CSDb vote and other CSDb votes ;) In addition, SuperNoise will play all entries for RiverWash 2015 audience who will vote on paper. Those votes will count as well.
Have fun! |

So despite having no time at all for this...I have a chord progression and tempo. I guess that's a start.
What a great HVSC directory you have amassed, Thomas. 1994 and 2006, I'm looking at you! |

Ok, I got a name, a chorus theme, a verse, a bass ok for both chips and some bugs in my editor. But I also got 2 weeks left for an intro, bridges connecting the themes and some extra melodies. I'm mainly worried about the shortage of rhythmic details, like ghost notes and such.
The thing that's struck me most is that Drax's tunes keep pounding musical ideas, so that's something to keep in mind. Keep pounding is the key here. :) |

Call upon artistic freedom and values.
Its obvious that most time in life is occupied these days is filled with families,
fiancés and economy and so forth. Most seem to have less or very little time to
participate parties other than the ones respected (everyone jerking of some off
for October next near, what a dump?). I can understand that really!
Though being out of the ordinary and as some has voted me being one of the top
graphicians in the world of this seemingly (esp. here on csdb small) community.
I would only hope that more would participate this adventure.
Drax is celebrating his 40:th year, this year and not the next.. So why not
give him the cred and boost for all his joy and endeavor heve done by handing in a
celebration here and sing his song for what hes worth!
Happy birthday in advance and may the tunes be of your pleasure!
Participate! |

Inspired by Joe's words, I re-did and released an old worktune I made in goattracker1, into goattracker2. It's a version of a Gameboy tune by Thomas that he sent me back in the days. But the original music seems to be lost somehow. Thomas can't even remember the music at this moment.
Who knows what it is? I'm pretty sure the original tune was also called Ting.
I did a remake of a GB tune by Drax some 11 years ago: Jump_Across.sid . I think it's from the same game (if it ever was released)
Anyway.. released outside of compo, just for the honour+ |

Happy anniversary SID master!
Shame on me, I have to skip this event due to the deadline. This is not my time to cretate SIDs or do anything else besides economy activities that Joe mentioned.
BTW, kudos to Joe for the insight. I always admired your attitude, mate. Be that art or constructive interaction between fellow creators.

http://csdb.dk/release/?id=140894, mine and MCHs contribution, which turned out not very DRAXish at all. It feels I've shamelessly been "inspired" by parts of DRAX tunes before and now when "allowed to steal" no inspiration comes. Ah well, it's an entry at least, I've heard compos needs them heh. Hopefully it will also lure out some additional entries if nothing else.. ;) |
