Release id #247309 : Fishbomb
This should be undeleted as it actually competed and ended #15 in the compo, despite being unfinished or not working completely.
It's preferable to leave a entry without download and explain it's not released publicly; if/when a 100% finished version is done, add a separate entry for that.
Example: Rebirth |

I would consider it being disqualified, and not released at all, so they can take part in next demo compo. Which i'm looking forward to. |

I’m confused sometimes about what CSDb is.. it’s often said that it’s all about “releases”, that’s the crux of the Db. But then there’re often things added here that were never actually released. A letter between one scener and another, for example, isn’t usually added I believe. But a WIP logo, such as https://csdb.dk/release/?id=216507, is. If something is shown in a compo, that doesn’t mean it was released either, surely, unless it was actually distributed - which in this case it surely wasn’t? |

It's ranked in a compo and listed in the results so it existed at some point, hence it must be documented and linked in the compo.
The fact it's not released officially to anyone is secondary and IMHO irrelevant. CSDb is about documenting C64 scene productions. The authors can even decide to add the non-working production to the entry, if they wish. There have been countless party versions that failed or had bugs and they have been added anyway and eventually a 100% version got added, but as another entry to distinguish party version and final version.
Just leave said in the comment: Shown, crashed and a 100% release is delayed and will or won't happen in the future. |

Yes, please undelete!
If only for the fact i missed this release completely, only known from "heard about" ;-)
But i agree with iAN CooG.. it's a scene release, a broken one, but though.. it should be here on CSDb or did Extend blocked it? |

Understood. Yeah, makes sense I guess. |

In a perfect world, authors would have the last word about when their production is being released. Sadly this is CSDB... |

jetboy: you're mixing up release with documentation. Maybe something got lost in translation here.
I'm not telling them to upload the bugged version if they don't want to. All I ask here is to leave the CSDb entry, even without download, to document the demo was shown at the party and don't leave a empty spot for #15 position in the demo compo. |

Fishbomb demo was shown for 30 seconds, and it got a spot in the rankings at the end.
so entry must exist on CSDb IMHO, as Ian says.
CSDb's goal to have all the possible releases can't be successful anyway, for example this one is still missing: https://youtu.be/VEoJmb0rfJk?t=5013 (hi Mibri! :) ) |

undeleted
All that matters to CSDb
- It is a C64 production having - according to ranking - competed and been shown at a scene party and thus, should be documented.
- Void slots in ranking are normally for other systems releases, e.g. 16 bit or 8 bit other than C=64 releases in WiLD competitions (at parties also titled "Retro"/"Oldskewl"/etc.)
Things that don't matter
- File pubished or not... CSDb would prefer to have all the files, but CSDb can't and won't force anyone to provide it (I wonder how should that work...?) It is up to the author or the compo orga to upload the entry here or not. I personally didn't compete and thus, didn't read what conditions competitors accept or which rights the compo orga reserves.
- Buggy or not... Even if it was shown on emulator (not the case here) only or crashed on real hardware, even if there will be a fixed version released soon, the release is not vaporware after all.
PS: I totally see why the file is not here, if I was in that situation (no matter if competitor or orga), I would also keep the file under seal. To make it crystal clear, another question is should the organizers of another compo accept the 100% as unreleased? -> YES, they should IMHO as really only some seconds were shown before it crashed. Should any other competitor of such future event whine about that? No.
Keep my fingers crossed for Extend! and looking 4wd to enjoy the 100% version soon. Pretty sure ANY orga with some brains and with no sticks in their a---es will be glad to let it compete at their party. |

Hah!! Yes, I never uploaded that mysterious submission - I don't know what horrendous acts of violence the Twitch Cracking Service's members might be capable of. So, they'll have to upload it themselves some time, if they want to... :D |

When I added this entry, the intension was to bring up this kind of discussion and it seems that there now an agreement to just have no download available. But as the for the title, maybe it can include some sort of aka/description that it's a non-working preview? |

why not just add what happened as trivia or prod notes, maybe include link to stream :)
anyhow, I feel bad for Extend, hope to see the complete fishbomb at the next compo :) t64 maybe? |

And if I'm wrong, i.e. ...
a) you fix it but party orgas of your upcoming-party-of-choice refuse to accept it as unreleased
and/or
b) you need time till late Feb 2025
and/or
c) you've always wanted to visit Berlin but were just looking for an alibi...
BCC Party #19 will lick their fingers ;) |

The author always has the final word. If he keeps stuff to himself, then it is not released.
However, if author gives stuff to someone else, then it is out of his hands - and basically released. And what can not be done, is retroactively make this not happen.
This isn't what the thread is about though - ian said it all |

It was me who closed them as
a) we've been discussing a lot _here_ and why having two places to watch, often gets kinda confusing
b) there's not much to comment on yet... apart from it's crashing at zoo... not even file...
anyway, re-open-ed comments...
I hope in less than a week we can enjoy the real McCoy... *fingers stay crossed* |
