Release id #27106 : Coders World 1
What is wrong with the D64-file?
It's not gzip, I can't gunzip it, my archiver doesn't open it, when I rename it to .d64 without .gz it does't work.
The other versions of this Disk Mag work perfectly when renaming to *.D64
It's weird, can't detect any file-format.
WHen I look it up in a Hex editor, it looks like there is PLAIN text, I can recognize words like the coder "The Phantom", Vice shows me no directory.
Maybe it's a tape? Dunno, VICE doesn't work with this one. |

Hey PIxman...
Weird that I should notice this eh?
The file DOES work. You have to click FILE in vice, then autostart disk/tape image and finally clicking on the .gz file. If you can't see the file, change the "Files of type" to ALL.
I downloaded the image and it's working fine for me.
***EDIT
In case you don't want to follow the steps given, I've uploaded a .d64 version of the magazine. I'd suggest using the steps given, as there are many more .gz files out there. |

Dr.J - Not saying this with an ego. You would be amazed at how often I hear that. I'm PROUD that this magazine series helped people, which was the goal.
I'm still amazed to this day about it. 23 years later and people still use it. Just amazing. |

Maybe you should keep doing Coders World.
Thanks, Phantom. Part 2 and 3 already helped me massively in a few parts.
Why not make a little "magazine" with guest entries? A remake of the Coders World magazine.
Basically an add-on to Codebase64.
I am currently working on some articles for Codebas64 and C64-wiki.de
There is still not enough example code and explanations out there.
Currently also reading every line of the VIC-article of Christian Bauer and WOlfgang Lorenz.
Very good read. |

By the way, I still can't run Coder's World 1.
It starts to the intro, but from there, it doesn't work at all.
I configured an NTSC C64 in my VICE.
Wil try x64sc, perhaps this works... any idea?
dit: x64sc did it :) (even on PAL, with some glitches of course) |

Pixman.. I thought of doing more coders world magazines, but it was really short lived. I cannot commit to something like that, but you're welcome to, anybody that wants to is. I don't have any source code for it, not sure any exists. The magazine was coded in a monitor and likely, would be a coders nightmare to do anything with. The format was kept stupid simple though. Any editor using extended background was fine (ie. ebedit). Filename structure should be easy too. I think it's all visible in memory. Help yourself. Would be cool to see the magazine live on through someone else, it really would be, but I can't commit to it.
There are things in stir though. Keeping in mind I feel "coded out", there are things in stir ;)
I'm not sure why the magazine is giving you problems, seems you have to be a coder to get it working, eh? hehe. Glad to see you figured it out though. |
