Release id #201894 : Borderpolizei

So, quoting Krill:

Finally someone made this! =)

It would be really cool if some of you would take their time and read the .pdf, and then provide your results.

Especially interesting would be results from high quality CRT TV sets that can be trusted to be properly factory calibrated. Even more interesting if someone around here is qualified to do this himself (and has the equipment). Speak up! :)

the vertical "non centering" actually looks spot on - it should be 8 pixels more on the left than on the right. Thanks!

Hmm, but only if pretty much "everything" is shown horizontally. As in, when the right border isn't cropped like in the screenshot, i guess. =)

Can't properly read the right-border numbers there, will the next version come without compliance to borderline compo restrictions?

Alternatively we could choose an alternative font, but the point *is* taken;)

Frankly spoken, this is the first time I ever saw a c64 output with such a narrow right sideborder!

Thanks to everyone for doing measurements! Means a lot to us :)

nope. its exactly what happens when you use a C64 at a properly calibrated TV set - 8 pixels more in left border than in right border.

Properly calibrated for TV, improperly calibrated for C-64, then. =)

I also wondered if I should post my screens absolute maximums. I decided to write them down locally.
So I'm able in time to post them if necessary or take that as a personal reference.
So I could (if really necessary!) adjust my screens at the particular time, you coders are doing crazy things again.
But for motivational issues I'll post them nevertheless, now and here! NARF

(type, manufacturer, name - outer/inner max top/bottom/left/right dec) ...this should go into standarized database
CRT | Sony | Trinitron BVM (15“) | 27/21|49/43|31/29|29/25
Beamer | Sanyo | Z2 | 28/27|47/46|36/35|35/34

now go, do crazy stuff :P

please post the other values (positions) as well :)

not sure what you mean by "my screens absolute maximums". all values should be checked after calibrating the screen as described in the manual. tweaking the screen so it shows as much of the signal as possible makes no sense for this measurement - we already know what those are, and the whole point is to find out what the visible area of properly calibrated screens is.

Perhaps a video showing how to calibrate would be cool for non-RTFM freaks. I'd gladly make one but don't have any CRT yet.
