Handle id #11873 : Steve Turner

Ok, Steve Turner is obviously NOT a scener :P

I know this has been debated over and over, but this is a *scene* database. Just because a tune composed by this guy was ripped from a game and included in a scene release, does not make him a scener.

I call again for a purge of all non-sceners from CSDb! Purge I say!

Anyway, just seems a bit silly.

He might once have been a scener before he went commercial, what do I know...where do we draw the line? Ben Daglish, David Whittaker, Martin Galway, Rob Hubbard...none of them were sceners...should we purge them as well?

They are in the database in order to be able to give full credits in scene-releases.

I.e. their work has been used in scene-productions.
This doesn't make them *real* sceners, but in a sense you could say that it makes them "close enough" to be in CSDb.

A non-scener whos work haven't been used in any scene releases, should ofcause not be in the database.

So how does this relate to the non-scene games that have been entered here lately?

rob hubbard released stuff before he went commercial (synth sample...) so that might actually qualify him as a scener :)

Hubbard also released demos like "Zoolook Moozook" (which i still think is a really nice demo personally, just updated it's entry in the database) onto Compunet as well as working with Stoat and Tim on "Call Of The Wild" - their Chicken Song demo which i just updated the entry for a bit. =-)

Same goes for Ben Daglish (working with Tony Crowther, the "Trap" and WeMUSIC demos being the obvious example and throwing into the Chicken Song hat), David Whittaker (his rendition of "The Model" with the grid in the background and "Chicken Farm" with Ratt and Benn), Matt Gray ("Jukebox 64" series and contributed music to couple of other teams) Neil Baldwin (as Demon, member of the Borderzone Dezign Team and did the music for "Future Shock") and so on...

That at least makes them "scene by proxy"... =-)

If there's an option for crediting a person for "linking", the process of attaching one file onto another there should be no issue with crediting a person who was a composer.

Music is as much of the scene as is the super-difficult issue of linking two files into one. And yes, that is sarcasm.

It's not about the effort - it's about people who were actually part of the scene. And a lot of game musicians never were.
