Quote: Sure but don't you agree it would be better to have one standard.

I might add something constructive now (oh dear);

Let's all stick to the +<trainers> (ie. +3, +5 etc.) format.
If a release/filename has a different notation (ie. ++++, <gamename> Trainer etc.) use the alternative spelling box.
Both formats are preserved and everybody is happy.

Oh, and leave the original filename intact in the diskimage.

My 2 eurocents.

that sounds okish as a workaround (and its pretty much what is usually done) - but imho the only good solution is to put metadata (such as "how many trainers" or "pal/ntsc fixed" into seperate fields into the database. (so that info actually becomes accessable for searching etc) the releasename should always contain the original unchanged name of the release, and the aka field whatever else.

I would go for this... but well only talking about will not be
enough, let's make a clear rule here.

Since this thread was started because of me I'll state my humble opinions here:

The name field should contain the name of the release as given in the release itself (intro/main screen/whatever).
The aka field should be used for variations if needed to prevent duplicates & make the release show up on relevant searches.
The filename should never be used as the #1 source for a release's name since it's limited to 16 chars & could have been changed by anyone along the way, in some cases it should be entered as aka though (Stuff like "RAMBO ZAX&FX/GRP" vs "The Complete Sound & Effects from Rambo").

I dont know what people usually do here, but in my archive I use +3, +5, +M etc.

Especially because I want the full filename in the title - a good example of using the 16 chars for ++++'s are this release from pulsar: OS++++++++++/PUL

putting metadata into (file)names is always a bad idea. metadata belongs into the database, and the name shoud be used for - surprise - the actual name of the release. also what zyron said, its pretty much the only way that allows to convert the data which is embedded in the names into real database entries at same point.
