Release id #101899 : Neuromancer

Am I really the only one who has always had this version crash upon entering the Gentleman Loser?

VICE 2.4 reports "JAM at $854B". Also crashes in exactly the same way on real hardware.

Did you recently re-download the d81? The version you're linking to appears to work. C0 uploaded an uncorrupted version back in 2011.

:) As j0x states and my comment on the release...

The original game has only one flaw we found and that was in the text of the IRS database being a block short. Obviously an error which happened on mastering the original game at interplay. Luckily that doesn't crash the game there - just gives an odd end on one of the readings.

Sweet, yes, we're in good shape now, thanks.

Is this text bug fixable after all? Even though it seems to be irrelevant for the gameplay, it would be nice to have a 101% version then. :-)

Sortof - you would have to make up the end of that "article" there in about 250 characters ... without knowing what was supposed to be written there - bad luck.

Also the text entry is not relevant to the gameplay in any case - likely the reason why Interplay missed it on quality checking.

Assuming the text is identical between ports, any interested party could just take the missing data from another version (Apple, DOS, Amiga). It'd also be quite a challenge to crunch everything down to fit a single 1541 disk side.

Yes, I would assume the text to be identical between platforms. So there is still room for a nice "gold" version, or maybe EF? :-)

True - texts can be ripped from other platforms - crunching this 4 sider to a single disk is completely out of question though.

2 sides using nowadays packers should be possible.

Out of the question? As in "impossible"? I agree that a 2-sider should be possible by brute-force application of today's compression tools, but by using content-specific compression techniques, you never know.

Let's say a one-sider is Impossible, just to activate those crackers that would be triggered by the I-word. :)

I would accept a version which had the intro (including the Devo-sample) on a separate disk side, as long as the game itself was playable without disk-swapping.
