HVSC - sid revision

Lazy guy here asking for advice that I probably could find by just googling around long enough.

For years now I've been bugged by the fact that my songs in HVSC don't have the information about sid chip they're supposed to be played back on and thus the filtered sounds usually sound muddy / inaudible (I used 6581R3 & 8580). Now, finally I looked at the specs here: https://www.hvsc.c64.org/download/C64Music/DOCUMENTS/SID_file_f..

It seems the format only supports 6581 / 8580, but not the different revisions even though the filter curves between 6581 models differ wildly. Is there something I'm missing here?

Secondly, what's the best practice for editing & re-submitting the .sid files? Do it myself with a hex editor and send them somewhere? Couldn't find this info on HVSC site, but maybe I just didn't look hard enough.

Also, for those files that I composed using 6581R3, should I choose 6581 which is the correct chip or 8580 which sounds closer to 6581R3 than any other 6581 revision?

you should select 6581. the 6581 filters vary wildy, regardless what revision. "R3" doesnt really mean anything.

Yep, it's in the Info tab, but no worries, nobody reads it anyway.
Just send at hvsc@c64.org anytime a list made like this

/MUSICIANS/F/Flotsam/As_Always.sid
6581

/MUSICIANS/F/Flotsam/Axemania.sid
8580

etc

No need to edit the sid headers yourself and send them, they will be patched with the update script.

OK, now I feel a bit stupid. I thought the info page was just boring copyright stuff and concentrated on the FAQ page. Thanks both for the help. :)
