Sfx needed for a steam locomotive game
Hello, I have been working with improved version of the Evening Star game for quite some time now. For some of you the game called Southern Belle might be more familiar, its essentially the same game with some slight changes and a new track.
Original game has sound, but it could be way better. I don't have personally any skills what comes into handling sound on sid chip so I'm in need to sound overhaul for the game.
What is needed is a routine making engine, whistle and notification pip sounds.
I have source code available for the original routine to see how the "rhythm of the engine" is handled.
My work has been mostly to get it running faster, currently it runs the "high speed run" in less than 3minutes where the original game needs almost 8 minutes. TNT/BF has been major help here also.
Duce/Extend also pixelled very nice "loading picture" for my version as original c64 version didn't have any. So I'm also looking for a suitable themed intro tune. |

Best steam locomotive sound engine sounds like a tempting theme for a compo to me. :D |

I forgot to mention that the original game also handles tunnels, so sound needs to change when in tunnel.
@frantic: Excellent idea! |

Without volunteering myself to the task*, asking just out of curiosity and for the benefit of others: How much ram and rastertime is allocatable to the engine? Can the engine be called more than once every frame?
*) This would be really interesting to do, but I just have zero time at least for the next few months. |

Rasters trigger twice/frame, so it would be possible to run sfx 2x speed. RAM is available, but how much does such sfx even need?
Every cycle sfx takes is away from the 3d engine, so fewer cycles are better. |
