Separate categories for expanded hardware
I think that Algorithm's excellent new easyflash demo, together with some other demos that require hardware expansions (Treu Love and FMX music demo, for instance) obviates the need for a separate category for releases that require expansions.
This also goes for cracks that ONLY work with REU/easyflash/sd2iec and whatever else. Cracks that offer extra benefits from having such hardware, but work on standard hardware too, are a different thing.
Whether it be implemented by tags for common hardware expansions (and [other] for non-standard) or just separate release types (Expanded C64 Demo, Expanded C64 Crack) is up to the CSDb developers, obviously.
Computer + drive + joystick is a typical setup. Computer + REU, Easyflash, SD2IEC, SuperCPU or similar isn't.
PS: While Algorithm's new demo was what triggered me to write this, it's something that's been brewing for quite some time. It's by no means a critique of that demo--in fact I love that people make use of expansions. I envision that to be even more common in the future with the FM-YAM coming up. |

INSERT INTO ProductionTypes (name, description) VALUES ('EasyFlash demo', 'A demo that requires an EasyFlash cartridge'); |

1541u2/1541u2+ is almost standard hardware now. Since firmware release 3.2 there is full eAPI support, so EasyFlash is becoming more and more mainstream (finally). |

jackasser: and then you realise all the hardcoded things.... =D (and no, yet another production type is not the solution for this problem) |

1541u2/u2+ also has REU support (and thus MMU). Having mainstream availability means that we can support it as an extra feature, or release specialised releases for that (sub)platform. It doesn't mean that it should be compared on equal footing with vanilla HW.
Also, considering that v3.2 was released like two weeks ago or so I think it's fair to assume most people *don't* have EasyFlash support in their U2(+) :P |

Running EasyFlash carts has been supported for some time (years) already. Only since firmware 3.2 it has eAPI support that makes saving possible. Your time scale might be a bit skewed ;-) |
