Videos of Releases and other ideas
I think a very cool feature for CSDb would be to allow maintainers to add links to YouTube videos created of the release in action. Not everyone has the requisite hardware to run all the releases, and for some getting VICE set up correctly to replicate the intended effect of the release can be a challenge. Being able to link to videos on YouTube would be super awesome when you are just casually browsing the repository of releases.
I think another cool feature for releases would be an NTSC/PAL flag. This would be a searchable field so that you can easily weed out unwanted results from searches. |

Not hard to get a PAL C64 really, just watch eBay for a while and you'll find one or two. I've picked up three working PAL C64s through eBay over the past two years. |

That's still ridiculous to suggest that everyone who wants to watch a demo in NTSC land should buy a 220V inverter, PAL 64 and PAL capable monitor to watch it on. I'm not giving up my NTSC 128 setup to watch a few demos. There's such a thing as limited desk space and I don't have enough for two Commodore systems. Puting the demos on YouTube is perfect for casual browsing. |

Meanwhile abuse the aka-field or add the link to the video in the user comments. |

Youtube would spoil the precious vote-system? :-)
Who'd want to be downvoted based on 25 fps low-q shit?

Well, it's not that I care about videos but why don't you consider other video sites (or even building your own video server) which supports 50 FPS? As I said, I don't really care about videos but don't refuse an idea just because of youtube's limitations. |

because csdb is about preserving stuff and not about presenting demos to people who dont even bother to install an emulator. for that we have pouet, which is already "supported". |

On pouet the videos make sense imho, since a lot of platforms aren't widely available or fully emulated anyway. |

How about being able to upload multiple screenshots? Peeps are too lazy to create an animated GIF. Can you cope with this? |

I'd say:
only add more pictures etc if voting is shut off alltogether.
People judge demos/gfx by screenshots as is already...

@mr.Grumpy: For preservation only. How about tagging system maybe? No? Ah no... of course it's not IStockPhoto...
@mr.Enthusiastic: The current voting system makes no sense anyway so I guess adding more still images wouldn't break it.
I am gonna use the CSDB API (http://noname.c64.org/csdb/webservice/) and create an alternative CSDB is this allowed? :D

I didn't know about this API. This has potential to allow a CSDb client for the 64. How cool would it be to search for a release from the 64, and then download it directly to the machine? |

If i've understood correctly Vimeo supports 50fps. |

Posting videos will make people less interested in emulators and the real deal, and most of the watchers will not download the production, and it will not be spread, thus die. Forever. :P |

I was thinking....
Maybe it´s a good idea to incorporate an emulator in the CSDb website? That way, people can check Pearls for Pigs ***ONLINE*** or play Last Ninja 2 ***ONLINE***!!!!
Now how cool would that be? ;-)
Whilst your at it, maybe incorporate Timanthes aswell!! And Photoshop...
No no, don´t thank me for my creative thinking: just remember to credit me for the idea!!! xD |

@Sounx: I've done it a while ago http://play.blog2t.net/flash-as3-c64-intro-previewer
It was for intros c64, you just need a bookmarklet (check the bottom of the post)
Unfortunately the current state of Flash emulator is very basic, far from VICE.

I don't buy these "we are not gonna implement a good feature because we think it is harmful to our community" talks anymore but since I don't care about videos and I am not the one who is gonna spend the time and implement those features, I will STFU. ;) |

People can add YouTube links already. If there's no other webpage URL for the release, then that's useful additional info. Of course it shouldn't be mandatory.
But personally I would like to see some more enhancements to the BBCode parser, to allow some of the modern fancy tags such as [youtube], [flash], etc. Then people could embed a video in a comment. |

Most releases end up on Pouet as well these days. And it akes a few seconds to search for productions on YouTube. You must be terribly busy. |

It is so 2000 in here and we are proud of it!
Ps. And do not forget it is about preserving stuff.
Ps2. Yes, you can make a demo about it.
