Improving the Private Message System usability
Okay, besides wining about the votesystem, sometimes I like to be useful as well :)
I just realized that I've missed 6 PM's from the last 3 months. The explanation is probably that I'm mostly logged into CSDb on the company computer which is used by others as well (I tend to forget to log out from my user, don't mind if someone else uses the box), so the browser is used by 2-3 people who might refresh the tab where CSDb resides, and, restarting the browser also causes a refresh. And the situation is quite like the same with my home computers which I'm sharing with my gf.
Since the message system is well hidden, I never notice if there are new messages in my inbox, only if I explicitly go to the Private Message System from my userpage (almost never). I am not sure if this is actually a wide-spread problem, but a small change on the right column would help a lot considering its usability. Especially for those who use the message system more often.
So here's my idea, what do you think? Perff?

@Oswald:
1) Good idea.
2) Easy to add.
3) Either you are very lazy or very talkative.

Almost everywhere where a user is mentioned, there is a PM link or similar right next to it, to go directly to "send message to ...".
Besides you can go to the PM "menu" by clicking on the "Private messages" headline in the PM-box.
But if it's a big request I'll consider it. :)

This small update would save me a click sometimes:

a click better spent on a pixel that's not yet a complete picture |

yes thats a very handy feature, but when I want to send a pm to someone, most of the time I will not have his handle mentioned on the screen with the PM link. So I should remember fex. in which forum he posted last, search for it, when found search his handle in the topic, click PM link. It can be quite involving, as you see :)
Instead when I'd like to send a messy, I could just click send message, search for handle, done. (LRU list would improve this a lot:) |

Oswald: isn't my solution basically the same but with less work required from Perff? Or might be I'm misunderstanding what do you actually need. :|
Search for the handle from the main search box -> Click on PM link (not yet there) -> Write message -> Voilà
And whilst this isn't implemented:
Search for the handle from the main search box -> Click on the handle -> Click on the PM button on the scener's page (top right corner in the first column) -> Write message -> Voilà
You don't actually have to remember and search for forum posts and what not (if I got you right, that is)...

Added the little PM link in the search result, but be aware that it only works for those sceners who have linked their CSDb account with their CSDb scener entry. |
