Random navigation - remember type of release

Would it be possible to remember the type of release when it's clicked on the "Random" link? On average, 5-6 out of 10 clicks will result cracks. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against them, but I'm much much more interested in demo scene releases showing up randomly rather than cracked games. So, some kind of a filter would be great there.

Should it replace the existing random link, or should both types be possible?

My idea is, when I'm on a page where the release type is a 'demo', I'd like to get random demos from that point, if I'm on a page where the release type is '4K', I'd like to get random 4Ks, and so on... Get the point? Someone who is interested in random cracks, could click on the random link from a page where the release type is 'crack'. That would be probably the most elegant solution.

Even better, if it isn't hard to implement, a 'release type' drop-down menu with prev - rand - next above it, what do you think?

I think "related" demos (related productions) could be more interesting than random prods. Related in terms of "response demo to this demo", "or sequel" etc.. but ofcourse that would need additional database table to connec the related prods in some way..

That's a good idea CreaMD, but for now, I'd be more than happy with an updated random thingie \:D/

Both random and related product ideas are very nice.

Indeed nice idea. And speaking of board features i would love "by type" under the Sort Credits thing so all the Graphics, Demos, or whatnot are in one block. I think that would be helpful.

Would it be ok, if the navigation thingy is a usersetting, so one can choose to navigate as today, or to keep release-type?

The related thing has been on the todo-list for quite some time now. It was the plan to do a custom relation for all types of entries, so you can connect any two entries, and write a little text as to what this connection is. Guess this covers what is talked about here.

The requested sort by on the scener-page is now implemented. :)

Check the right bar below "Navigate" on any release page.

And check your personal settings if you want to stick to the same file-type..

Good option!
Thanx Perff and Jailbird! 8D

Keeping the release type while navigating isn't working here.
Anyone else noticing the same problem or it's just me hallucinating due to the assblaster coffee I just drunk?

Oh and before you ask, "Keep releasetype when navigating" is set to YES on my userpage

I just tried it and it's jumping between release types so it does look like it's broken.

Wait. I don't need them ugly tags! I just need the navigation function working again, like in the good old days. :'(

What good reasons are there to expect that tags invented by any user would be used with any kind of consistency? (Getting a bit off topic here... sorry.)

Thank you Perff!

@Frantic: reliance/moderation? Same as for credits, or in fact any user submitted info on the site. I guess.

Perff, could you put some light on why tags will be not supported? decisions about new tags could be managed by mods.

it has been told often enough. they wont improve anything, and we dont believe in the "1000 monkeys" and web 2.0 bullshit.

I'd really like to hear perff's or other inmates' opinion. because I havent so far. Convince me it's not only Groepaz' personal opinion :)

there's an obvious demand to mark stuff with sid type, has vsp or not etc etc, and from time to time new ideas like those arise. moderated tags would solve this nicely.

btw, also having people's fave demos/sids/pix/etc in lists in tags or anyhow done technically would rule. would make people to explore more releases.

Although I'm also more or less against web 2.0/ajax/social bullshit, seems to me that tags would be quite useful for finding related releases.
F.e. tagging some pictures with the "samurai" or "OMG" tags would help us find all those lovely hidden gems on the site.

+ It's quite easy to implement, at least give Oswald a chance :) Tags have been proven very useful on numerous sites (just look at IMDb, the portal CSDb was based on).
