Question regarding subgroups
I'm wondering how to handle subgroups correctly.
For instance, scener S is member of X which is a subgroup to Y.
1) Does that make S a member of Y? I.e. should he be listed in the members of Y as well?
2) Should a release be credited to both X and Y? Even if it was formally released by Y?
What's the "correct" way to do this? |

this cant be represented in the current database scheme unfortunately (and its not trivial to solve either).
currently ppl usually do this:
- S is a member of X
- in "trivia" of X it says that it was a subgroup of Y. maybe also the other way around in Y
- credits apply to those who are directly involved, usually X |

Can you name some of these subgroups? |

I think as long as there is no "subgroup of"/"mother group of" field, the way Groepaz described (Trivia with Hyperlink) is the best workaround (unless the entry is locked, hehehe) |

one popular umbrella group is eg The Light Circle (which i think may also serve as an example on how to do this, note backlink in eg Radwar entry) |

A specific case is The Cosmic Force which was a subgroup to The Danger Zone (who in turn had moar subgroups).
Their releases are labelled /DEVILS on disk, but in demos they often say "S of X of Y", i.e. they mention both their subgroup and the mother group.
Take Cosmic Bytes for instance. This is /DEVILS, but it's coded by "Flu from TCF for The Devils"... Still, I've left it as a Devils release and not TCF + Devils... Right or wong?
The trivia approach is fine, making cross links both to- and from the main group. I think that should be encouraged - in both directions! |

When concerning releases i always added both the group and sub-group as releaser.
I did alot of work on The Artworx who used many many subgroups. Perhaps this entry and their releases will work well to see how i did it. System is not perfect, but subgroups are usually so complex i dont really know how to do it. |
